The Japanese government wants people to choose citizenship by the end of their 20th year, because 20 is the age of majority in Japan. But if you don’t say anything, they won’t ask, and you can keep renewing your Japanese passport along with your other nationality’s.

I’m a Canadian, and I was married to a Japanese woman. She was on the family registry, and our children were, but I was a comment. Way to show a commitment to treating all people equally, Japan!

I would imagine that it also has to do with the family registry. If a woman marries a man, she is taken from her own Family Registry and entered in her husband’s. I would imagine that upon the husband’s death nothing changes for the wife, but she has the option of returning to her own family registry.

I’m not 100% sure that this is how it works, or the reason for this termination, but it seems like a valid one.

I have the set of Infocom text adventure games. I think the earliest ones came out in about 1981 or 82. I still fire one up now and then for a nostalgia hit. I bought a few when they came out, but couldn’t afford more.

You can play some of them online, in your browser. Of course there are thousands of text adventure games (a.k.a. interactive fiction) available for free. Definitely worth checking out! And look at Inform, a language and IDE for creating these games by using more or less standard English.

To protect against piracy, most of these games required physical objects that were included in the game box. They are known as feelies. There are plenty of places on the web where you can find all the feelings you need.

A couple of years ago, Canada required all carriers to cell unlocked phones, or allow them to be unlocked for free. Nothing bad has happened because of that. Our cell phone plans are still too expensive, and the companies are wildly profitable.

I don’t see much points in your page, when something like MDN is available, but I also feel stupid because I didn’t know that the forEach() method existed, and it appears that it is ancient!

Back in the 1980s, before MS Word was the unquestioned king of the desktop, there was a DOS word processing program called WordPerfect. Everyone used it.

WP had a feature where you could press a special key combination and the screen would split. The top would have your text (not WYSIWYG, that was way in the future, although WP could show an approximation).

In the bottom part you could see your text, along with every control coffee code that turned bolding in or off, marked text for a table of content, etc.

Not only could you see it, you could navigate through it and delete codes, or watch the codes change as you edited text in the to half of the screen.

It gave you a control that I still miss these days. No more wondering why your word processor is doing columns wrong, or why the image you inserted doesn’t line up properly.

I used to use Rainlendar. Not FOSS but the lite version is free.

We have ways of making you talk: a historian and a stand-up comedian explore the nooks and crannies is WWII. Insightful and entertaining. I’m still enjoying it after 600 episodes.

Doing a bit more research, it looks like the melody was created as a lullaby for her daughter. Obviously they repurposed it for this song, but kept in the mentions of Maya as a kind of Easter egg.

Also, shockingly, I found that Minnie died from breast cancer at the age of 31. What a loss of a superb talent.

How is this song for her daughter, when the first verse contains the line “making love with you is all I want to do”?

I am a big fan of MyNoise, which mixes real-life recorded sounds, but you have a ridiculous amount of control over almost everything.

It’s browser-based, so compatible with any device. Once it has downloaded the sounds, it doesn’t use any more bandwidth.
