“Only reliable experience”?
The Alamo is the only theatre I ever go to anymore.
If I’m gonna pay these prices, at least I have a good seat, courteous fellow moviegoers, and I can get a decent drink and food.
Plus they show a great variety of movies.
I tried to watch Oppenheimer at IMAX in two different cities and both theaters had broken projectors.
The theater had a broken AC when I saw it in 70mm. (Non IMAX)
Now that they do food and drink orders via your phone, even Alamo is ruined
But you’re also paying ticket prices for said food & drink, so the trip ends up costing almost three times more sometimes.
Used to, before the pandemic. Went to one that enforced silence and kicked people out who used their phones. But wages are down while corporate bullshit is up, so fuck 'em.
People still go to the movie theater?
Not if I can help it. They’re sticky, noisy, ad-riddled, and uncomfortable. Plus, when they’re three hours long, I’m going to want a break.
This was my first thought. I don’t know anyone in my group who wouldn’t recoil at the proposition - absolutely not worth the overpriced trouble when you can just raise the black flag
I only go to two theaters in my city. One is a true (certified) full IMAX screen, although it’s digital and not 70mm. The other is also certified IMAX but the screen is a little narrower. The former I only go for really deserving films like Dune, which is once every two years maybe. The latter I go for “lesser” IMAX movies because they have $5 Tuesdays and it’s a new theater with nice and clean seats.
These are not the lie-max theaters like AMC has.
We have a decent movie theater only a few minutes from my house. Their ticket prices aren’t terrible, but their concession prices are just as ridiculous as anywhere I have seen.
They do have recliners for seats and every experience has been fun, but pricey. I only and just for big highly visual movies every year or two at most, because the cost is just not worth it even for the solidly positive experience. Heck, I even passed on a few movies that probably would have been better in the theater because I just didn’t try hard to make it before they left.
