I’m hoping for an Everything Everywhere All At Once Cinematic Universe, because I like my originality to feel familiar.
And they still laid off a substantial percentage of their artists.

If the movie is finished, what’s the purpose of keeping them? I’m asking this out of curiosity, not supporting or arguing for the studio.

What the other person said. Also, these artists would already have been on other projects. Most of them would have finished work on this movie months ago. Pixar has a stable of artists that are continually on staff for development or unreleased future projects. Some of the people let go had been there for 20 years.
Wait, they made Toy Story 4? Wasn’t the story done with 3?

That’s all Hollywood seems to know what to do these days. Churn out sequels and legacy sequels that don’t understand what made the original great. And every once in a while when crowds flick around a good movie they’ll beat it to death for more. And people will keep going because they need something to do to distract from gestures at everything
At least the toy story movies have all landed somewhere between good and great.

I have mixed feelings about the movie, on one hand it just felt off and not the quality I used to expect from Pixar. On the other hand it does try, it didn’t feel like a cash grab and wanted to touch on an important subject.
Toy Story came out in 1995. Children who were seeing it as kids back then are now over thirty and have their own kids.
I guess that’s the idea, hold on to your horses, they are going to try to milk these millennials for every penny they are worth with nostalgia bait

It is, but I’m not sure that make it any less odd.

Agreed. It was just a rehash of all the other ones with few redeeming qualities.
