Map Enthusiasts@sopuli.xyz•Centralia, PA: the street grid outlived the townEnglish
4·1 month agoThere’s only 4 buildings left in the town as of 2026. There’s 2 houses that will be demolished when the residents move out, what looks to be a junkyard, and a fire station. There are also barricades because south of town the state had to move PA 61 east and blocked off the old pavement.

Politics@sh.itjust.works•JD Vance unmasked as leaker for story White House used to justify press ban: reportEnglish
28·1 month agoYou can tell a pattern.
- They want to do something unconstitutional/illegal but want a reason to try to justify it.
- They do a false flag operation to cause a relevant problem or point to something tangential to the problem.
- They use Step 2 as the reason and do the thing in Step 1.
- Pretend Step 2 is a real problem and/or they didn’t do it themselves until proven otherwise to anyone with a functioning brain.
- Refuse to undo Step 3 unless forced to by Congress or the courts.

7·1 month agoDid you not know about the magical incantations that would silence them? The AT codes for the modem were a lifesaver if you were trying to get on the internet without anyone knowing.

4·1 month agoAnd once AI can no longer sustain itself once people become reliant on it, you get the modern version of “The Machine Stops” by E. M. Forster from 1909: https://web.cs.ucdavis.edu/~rogaway/classes/188/materials/the machine stops.pdf

Assert.IsTrue(true); There! That’s a passing test but doesn’t test anything. That’s why you write your own tests instead of having a machine do it for you.

1·2 months agoI think what metrics we need to see are “engaged views” which is watching at least 30 seconds and “average watch time” for the interview.

17·2 months agoThere were 8 options and Debian has ranked choice voting. This was actually around the middle of the spectrum of options, so with half voting most to least restrictive and the other vice versa, the middle of the road choice won.
