they’ve already made their money, you’re fine. you don’t need to support them as they’ve already been paid. Most creators for films and tv shows have already been paid.

Music artists, indie game devs, etc support them instead. Most musicians aren’t getting million dollar contracts, hell most don’t even get a few grand contract and any album sales or whatever fractions of a penny they make from music streaming sites go to the record label anyways. But their merch, go to their concerts as that’s where artists make their money.

Plasma is good, it’s in a better place now than it was even like a year or so ago. I always end up switching from it though because I just don’t need all the stuff that’s in it. But I’d rather use that over GNOME. I still to this day don’t know why people like GNOME so much I find it awkward and “slow” or maybe I’ve just been using it wrong.

kinda is the performance also though, that’s the reason I switched from Windows just over a year ago. My laptop battery was horrible. on win11 I might get maybe an hour out of it. Also for whatever reason Windows insisted on constantly removing my Wifi adapter completely where the only “fix” was completely reinstalling the OS. I had enough and switched to linux.

My laptop battery now lasts 3+hours and haven’t had any issues with wifi. Also as an added bonus I noticed better performance/higher FPS with games as opposed to Windows on the exact same machine.

I have a private instance of forgejo on my dedicated server and use codeberg for public facing stuff. it’s great. I wish MORE FOSS stuff got off github. Like Searxng for example. I have a Searx instance set up also but I can’t add it to the searxng list on github because I refuse to sign back up with them. there are a few others like that.

there used to be entire IRC channels set up just for sharing Dreamcast games as you could file share via mIRC. that’s where I got all my games. just burned them to a CD-R and that was that.

It is better than Claude though. Claude will just make stuff up or say EVERYTHING is a “known issue” when it isn’t.

I use CachyOS (Arch) and NixOS and haven’t had any problems. Modding on NixOS is a bit more of a headache but it’s not a deal breaker. Everything just works. Sure I can’t play League or Valorant or EA multiplayer games but not like I was playing those anyways. IF you do enjoy those games then your linux gaming experience isn’t going to be great.

As far as distros go? hell you can play on whatever one you want. Like I said I sometimes game on NixOS. I know a guy that even play games on Kali when he’s not doing his pen testing stuff.

Even for older games with Emulation it’s great. NixOS is my defacto remote emulation machine because it’s so painfully easy to set up retroarch on it. Otherwise I have Ubuntu on my private server and I run RomM on it and it has all my roms on there.

I prefer to pay artists I like directly either via merch, patreon, or going to their concerts.

the problem is Spotify is by far the best streaming platform out there, bar none. I’ve tried the other’s like Tidal and Deezer and what have you and just didn’t like them. Amazon Music was absolutely horrible. The only other alternative would be youtube music with an adblocker. How do I find new artists? youtube shorts believe it or not.

But yeah I’d rather pay the artists directly.
