- Stop calling it “the fediverse”
And the voices. “Billy…”
“You fucked the whole thing up.”
“Billy, your time is up.”
“Your time… is up.”
Copilot and that whole model is a bunch of shit
Get Claude.ai, do the thing of pasting the code you want it to modify into the chat window, and it’ll spit back out some modified sections of code you can put back into the file. It is more time consuming, but it actually works.
For intense operations you can make a project, upload the main headers and documentation, and it’ll absorb them into its sphere of awareness and start being able to take account of them when it does the above in chats within that project.
It is not perfect (as no LLM assist is) but it saves a lot of time and is not beset with the growing incompetence and failure with which OpenAI seems to be afflicted more and more with every passing month
BOB: Well, when you have TIME magazine do a cover story on Palestinian rights you see that the perception of the problem is changing.
Any fuckin day now
The interfaces are relatively modern too, with VGA and a PS/2 keyboard.
Ah, got it. I was talking about USSR, not modern Russia. Modern Russia is its own thing and its own brand of horror but not the same as OG Communist USSR which was more what I was trying to highlight.
Yeah. I’m taking the high side of the widely varying estimates of the Gulag population, which in the period of the 1940s range from 3.5 million to 17.6 million depending on who’s doing the estimating.
The Gulag at the peak housed about 7,500 (edit: 1,340) per 100k of the Soviet population.
(And yes, the US’s 531 is still also an atrocity.)
Where did you get 329? I actually couldn’t find any post-Kruschev numbers, but I know after privatization, Russia was pretty competitive with the US’s dystopian nightmare.
Edit: I was way wrong about the size of the Gulag
Ha, yeah, I get it. “lol they gay” is usually a joke. In this case it is not, as you mentioned:
In Sparta […] the cropping of the bride’s hair and transvestism likely aimed to transform her temporarily into an adolescent Spartan boy – a less threatening figure to the groom, who probably had made his own transition to adulthood via a close emotional and sexual relationship with an older male
It is just what was up
I was being sarcastic but I was in no way whatsoever joking
I honestly cannot remember whether it was me or the other lefty guy that was comparing the US army to the Nazis. But yes, one of us was.
Super fuckin dystopian
You never played as the “bad guys”. You and your team on your screen were always American, 100% of the time. The terrorists you were fighting saw a presentation on their own screen that you were the godless terrorists, and they were the heroic Americans. No one was ever the bad guys. Except, some “other” in some distant place. But not you.
We had heated arguments at one place I worked when AA wanted to hire us for some short contract. The one side of the argument was, guys, they literally just want us to set up and configure one web service for them. I don’t think we’re gonna wind up killing anyone from the global south in the course of setting up that server. The other side, which I remember verbatim, came in the form of a heated retort:
“Would you set up a blah blah blah server for the NAZIS?”
The prospect of cutting out all those $130k salaries is a hell of a drug
I would like to bring back into fashion the idea of writing it into the statutes which people it were that fucked up
“Everyone can do what they want, just remember, don’t break the law. Jefferson County: Hang back for a second, I want to talk to you a little more. Everyone else, I’ll see you next time.”
There is a way to solve this problem. Britain had it in action and it worked fantastically well, until Thatcher fucked it up.
The government buys a bunch of property and rents it out at reasonable rates, popping the bubble. No one has to have communistic laws limiting their ability to charge rent on the still-over-inflated-value property they purchased. The government gets paid. Housing is cheap. Literally everyone wins except for people who were holding onto properties to rent them, who all of a sudden have to find something to do that is productive to society. Which is also a win.
Of course, because it is sensible, and rich people would lose value on their investments, it could never get past congress 🥲
Also, export your DBs first, and snapshot the export instead of the raw DB files
Dude this is genius
I am interested to see how it plays out but the idea of the instance admin being able to pierce the veil and investigate things that seem suspect (and being responsible for their instance not housing a ton of spam accounts just as now) seems like a perfect balance at first reading
Edit: Hahaha now I know Rimu’s alter ego because he upvoted me. Gotcha!
With the current way that ActivityPub works, this isn’t really possible. Every vote needs to be signed by some real user; if that changed such that anonymous votes were accepted then there’s nothing to stop any random person from adding 5 or 5,000 anonymous votes.
