Hard to tell imo. Big tech has a lot of big advantages and disadvantages over us.

Being centralized and heavily funded, it’s a lot easier for them to rapidly create/change new things, for better or for worse. It also means they do a lot of the testing for us. Mastodon/Lemmy formats are figured out from what we liked from proprietary platforms, then we kept the core that made it good. We also don’t need to make a worse user experience by worrying about monetization.

We also have a lot less development, and I won’t even pretend that Mastodon or Lemmy are anywhere near well developed as Reddit/Twitter backends and other software. We simply don’t have the attention and funding to be anywhere near that level.

I don’t think we’ll ever replace big tech, but I just hope we stay on a healthy trajectory where we are alongside them in popularity.

It’s a great language to learn. The memory safety specifically. If you only use memory safe languages, you won’t know anything about how the memory is handled in the background. Start breaking and abusing memory, it’s the best way to learn why memory safety is important, what it’s doing different, and how it’s prevented.

Getting deep in the trenches with memory allocation is the best way to learn, since all memory safe languages do this as well, they just hide it. It’s extremely useful to know what’s going on behind the scenes and is fundamental knowledge that applies to all programming languages, past and present, no matter how much they hide it.

Oh boy, the Biden admistration is in their nerdy programming language phase. I’m scared for when the administration gets into WM vs DE and warns about the bloat of not using suckless software.

Lol this is such a load of bs being taken at face value. No, having credit cards in Norway isn’t bad. They judge your rating by your debt, and responsible credit card usage does not create debt. This reads like it’s written by someone who doesn’t understand how credit works, regardless of country.

It’s a silly system but really not that hard to do well. Put everything on credit card and set everything to auto pay the statement. That alone will give you good enough credit with little effort.

Genshin Impact is my main game, I prefer the really polished open world combat, and down to earth stories with an amazing emphasis on being culturally accurate.

Also the game literally has no grind, so idk wtf the other user is saying. 95% of the content is done non-repeatable. Character’s are time gated by an energy system, but there game is incredibly easy and it’s nothing worth worrying about.

The first thing you need is your pirate ship and your crew. Pirates steal, so I recommend just going to a nearby port and cause a mutiny. I think the people who say this and think Rust is the second coming of Jesus, just don’t code. You choose the right language that’s needed for the job. Server stuff like this is Java’s bread and butter. As amazing as Rust is, it has proven to not be a great choice for Lemmy’s development.
