The fact that the OP also included his very Jewish name in this post suggesting a conspiracy is surely also a coincidence… I am getting sick of all the conspiracy theories on Lemmy. It’s honestly kind of surprising to me how common they are.

It’s so they don’t “lose” in this case and acknowledge it’s stupid because then people might realize it’s stupid in general. They think tormenting this one cis kid is worth it to keep even a single real trans person out of sports because they think it will open the floodgates. That and there’s a decent chance the school administrators legitimately think this kid is trans and part of a massive conspiracy against their school because that’s where we’re at

I don’t know but I’m glad OP wasn’t showing me any words related to female genitalia because it would ruin my day and make me less likely to buy awesome new clothes on TEMU™

Do you think someone dumb enough to cause problems with this is smart enough to read the warning?

Bruh looks like a totally different person. Kind of sad tbh because I actually thought Bezos had a nice look about him especially compared to other billionaires. Homie should have hired Elon’s stylist because that mother fucker did some WORK to make that guy not look like a cave troll

So as someone who grew up very much immersed in “end times” focused Christianity I have never really understood something- why do so many end times Christians view end times prophecies like the Antichrist or the Mark of the Beast as things to be prevented or avoided? Even growing up I didn’t understand this because in the Bible it’s very clear that all that stuff will happen (or is happening, depending on whether you believe Revelation was meant to be a metaphor for current events at the time of writing) because God is explicitly allowing it to, and that these things are necessary for Christ’s ultimate victory over Death and Evil. So why would you try to prevent the rise of the Antichrist? In the “best case” you’re just kicking the can down the road and delaying the Return of Jesus a little. In New Testament apocalyptic writing, believers are described as resisting the Antichrist’s persecution, but not in having anything to do with its arrival one way or another. If humans are able to prevent, delay, or hinder the rise of the Antichrist, then God is not in charge and the whole point of these prophecies is kind of invalidated. The whole point of apocalyptic literature is that these bad things are happening and it seems like evil is winning over good, but in reality God is still all powerful and is still in control of all of it, and wins in the end.

Game developers hire economists and psychologists to run experiments on the precise ways they need to design their games to make people feel like they need skins and other cosmetics and spend money on them. The games are designed to nudge people into associating having good skins with being good at the game and having the default skins with being bad at the game, and to make people want the new skins and feel bad for not having them. Furthermore, they don’t really make money on the average person who either doesn’t spend money on loot crates or maybe spends a bit of money every now and then- the real money makers are a tiny percentage of players who have some bizarre compulsion to spend absurd amounts of money on this stuff. These are known as “whales” and a lot of them have legitimate psychological issues that cause them to be like this or they’re like Saudi nobility who just have absurd amounts of money and don’t give a shit about blowing it on fake video game stuff.

Did steam ever support Windows 98?

Who tf is out here paying $8 for a loaf of bread? I have made a lot of bread in my life and can’t possibly see a way to get the cost of making a single loaf (taking into account that the labor/capital required to make an individual loaf decreases dramatically as you start making more bread at once) up that high for a bakery. If I were making that shit one at a time in my house yeah it would probably cost that much but with professional equipment there’s no fucking way they aren’t doubling their costs on that.

I thought this when I bought my own espresso machine but then I realized that although the cost per cup is dramatically lower than what it would be if I paid for it at a coffee shop, I drink WAY more espresso (and coffee in general) than I did before I got it, meaning that any savings are purely theoretical. For example, I drink a double shot of espresso every morning as my morning coffee. On this basis, I saved money because the cost of my machine brings the cost per cup down to almost just the cost of the coffee. But before that, I was drinking coffee made by a $30 drip coffee machine that I had had since I moved out to go to college, which was already to that point. So on that basis, I didn’t save any money at all. I still think it’s worth it because I fucking love having a cup of espresso every morning but I no longer think of it as a “money saving” thing.
Although baptism probably has its roots in the Mikva, which is a ritual cleansing, that’s not really the significance within Christianity. Baptism is not a washing away of sins, or impurity, but is rather a symbolic death and resurrection. The Apostle Paul, an early codifier of Christian doctrine whose letters became part of the Christian Bible wrote as follows in Romans chapter 6
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Therefore we have been buried with him by baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.
This has the same end effect- the removal of sin and purification, but the conception is totally different.
It started as a joke about trans/cross dressing coders claiming that their feminine knee high socks were “programming socks” to assist in coding when found by roommates and then somehow it became the idea that all of this stuff was necessary for programming

Naptha is a mixture so I’m okay with that one. Benzene is just bad though.
Just start coding and learn as you go. I know that sounds daunting but I feel like there’s not really another way to learn on your own that actually works. I wouldn’t worry about a specific language at the start, whatever you learn will transfer pretty easily. I would start with thinking “What would be something cool to program?” And just seeing if you can do it or maybe a simple version. ChatGPT is amazing for learning to code as well. If you get stuck somewhere and need clarification or need help interpreting why your code is giving an error just ask ChatGPT and it can explain - just be sure that you actually understand what it is saying and why instead of just copy and pasting its code. This is how you actually get better instead of just “vibe coding.”
In my opinion, you’ll never get good at coding just going through “code academy” or similar gamified services. It’s more about practice and getting some experience under your belt. It’s like trying to learn how to be a good baseball player from reading books if you don’t go out on the field and play some baseball, or trying to learn the guitar without a guitar in your hand.
MIT has a really good beginner’s course for free that helps a lot with theory and background but IMO it’s based too much on theory for most people to actually build skills just from following it without work outside of the course.

For games I recommend just learning to mod first or learn how to make a simple game first and follow along learning exactly how it works at each step. I learned a lot digging into garry’s mod, TF2, and Minecraft mods back in the day.

I don’t think so. I did a deep dive into the rabbit hole of people who keep chimps as pets a while back and from my understanding of would be pretty hard to get a chimp to fuck you. Un-castrated male chimps are extremely violent animals and even if they were to try to have sex with a human it would be an extremely dangerous endeavor. I think most of the ladies (and interestingly, it’s almost entirely ladies) who keep chimps as pets definitely have some kind of psychological problem, but they mostly view their relationship as mother/child. Not saying that eliminates the possibility of misplaced sexual attraction, but in the written content I’ve seen from monkey moms and chimp parents I have never picked up a sexual aspect, although this was before this lady was famous and I haven’t read anything about her specifically other than what’s in this thread and article.
Is every kids movie these days legally required to have that exact same car scene in it

This is a feature not a bug. We saw what happened when the Internet was sanitized and welcoming, instead of being a transparent black mirror showing the true nature of humanity - society adopted it en masse without thinking about it or realizing its danger because that filth has a nice façade over it, and society is crumbling as a result. The Internet should not be a clean, universally friendly place because that is not reality and just hiding that behind civility doesn’t do much. In 2008, online Nazis were posting shittily drawn swastikas and talking about how much they love Hitler on fringe websites. In 2025 they’re posting videos on Facebook and Twitter in suits with massive audiences with the same hateful rhetoric hiding just beneath the surface hidden by a false veneer of respectability. This is what sanitizing the Internet has wrought.
How much do those tapes cost if purchased in bulk? I am trying to figure out how much a petabyte storage system costs, and how much physical space this would take up, and how much electricity it would require to run. I had a lot of trouble finding this information on Google because I know so little about tape storage and don’t know what all I would need. I am probably not going to actually do anything with this but I am curious because I had this idea for a product and can’t get it out of my mind. The most important part (for the hardware portion) is having nearly a petabyte of physical, local storage. I am aware this would be quite expensive and relatively large, but the product would be intended for governments and companies not individuals.
How much did this system cost? I have an idea for a product and one of the key parts of it is having a huge amount of local storage. I would need like 10x what you have though.
