I’d say that reality exists because people have a desire to perceive the world around them. I.e. if people didn’t care, never opened their eyes, reality wouldn’t exist to them. Sometimes they would randomly get hit by a bus, but they would ignore that.
Reality only exists because people have a conscious mind that makes them perceive reality. As such, that necessitates that reality is guided by some principles, because even if reality had no principles, that in itself would be a principle. So, the exact way that electromagnetism works is only a detail, but that there are forces to begin with is solely dependent on your conscious choice to even look at the world around you.

thanks!

i guess it’s very similar :D

Yeah I’m personally tending to always separate data and processing.
Data means you have an underlying data source (in lemmy’s case the set of all lemmy servers hosting lemmy communities), and a separate system that does search/recommendation based on the data.
The search/recommendation system would not store any data itself, but only filter and sort and process the data from the underlying servers and communities.

thanks! are multi-communities anything like sql virtual tables? i.e they appear as one community to the reader, but are the result of querying multiple communities

tags are (on other platforms) a part of a post’s content. This means that every user creating a post has to attach every tag that is relevant to the post, which could be a lot of effort if there are many tags available.
It would also be interesting if other users (e.g. moderators) could attach tags to a post, i.e. the post exists independent of the tags, and the tags get applied after the post is created.

yeah i’ve come to understand there is “law as on paper” and “law in practice”. In theory, many things are illegal in the country i live, in practice nobody gives a shit.
Classical example: alcohol and minors.

I think “being nude” is similar to “being honest”. You reveal what’s inside you without any kind of concealing mask.
Really, the US not wanting people to be nude at any cost makes me think that the US does not want the people to think honest thoughts either.

does anyone know what the difference between OsmAnd and Organic Maps is?

finally. i’ve been waiting for this for a long time. finally a worthwhile software development project again.
France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands will work to develop open, European alternatives in “key areas” such as AI, cloud, cybersecurity, and – curiously – social networks.
especially social networks are important, as it allows people to connect and exchange messages outside of the influence of US big biased algorithms.
does anybody have a link to the project website, where one can sign up and contribute?

this is just such a french headline it’s incredible :D

Tbf i’ve thought multiple times in my life that it had been better if i had grown up with my aunt while my mother was working all day. essentially what’s described in the article. “being with my mother” (i.e. sitting at home alone) while she was working till late in the evening had no personal value for me. when she came home, she was too tired to do anything.

skin does have a “horny layer”
me too, bud, me too

Sure enough, he ended up finding a dead rat. Unsurprising, considering he previously used a dead rat as an “alarm clock” because the sun would begin cooking the corpse, causing it to smell, and the stench would wake him up.
Damn i like that guy. Funny, at least.
“I change my pillowcases, I’ve done it before. It’s happened, I think twice,” he said. “One time I had a girlfriend move in and she said, ‘you need to change your pillowcases,’ and that was in 2019.”
Damn that is exactly my kind of humor.

cars are more complicated and took a longer time to develop, which is why trains were the only option before that

would be good to have a good map …
ah yes the fresh taste of that (checks notes) vinyl sticker air
