As others have pointed out, CloudFlare doesn’t sell .ca domain names due to the ownership restrictions applied by CIRA. I’ve personally used Web Hosting Canada (WHC.ca) for many years, including their hosting for a while. I also have a couple of domains with Register.ca.

I then use DuckDNS for dynamic updates and the free tier of CloudFlare for security certificates and some simple access rules.

IIRC Steam has used that first clause to limit Steam keys being provided on another store at a cheaper price. I believe devs have been allowed (maybe unofficially) to sell at whatever price they want if there’s no steam key being provided.

Seconding Zotero. I truly don’t know how I would be able to keep track of all the research I read through and reference. I especially love that I can highlight passages and attach notes to each entry right inside the desktop app.

The browser connector is also super handy for quickly adding papers to read-through at a later date.

Some of us don’t really have that luxury. For example, I don’t choose who I need to communicate with for work purposes.

Per the linked thread, this is already rolling out but requires a refresh of metadata for it to actually pull in from the new source, so if you don’t periodically refresh metadata, nothing will change. Additionally, any locked field (i.e. if you’ve changed it manually before) won’t be updated, so any manually assigned posters will remain the same.

I’ve already done the refresh on my library and I think I only had 2 or 3 posters that I really didn’t like and overall I actually prefer the new source. Not all changes are necessarily bad changes…

Most professions where action/inaction can result in damages will have similar insurance. Some insurance firms even specialize in coverage for professionals.

If your profession has an association or similar group, they should be able to help you find those firms if they exist.

For self hosting I’d recommend either one of the Meshify 2 or Define 7, depending on local price and your specific needs. I personally went with the Meshify 2 XL and was blown away by the quality of the case. It’s built well and allows for a variety of configurations. It also makes maintenance very easy as the filters and side panels can all be removed without any tool to handle dust build up.

Seconding the recommendation for FreshRSS, it’s the one I ended up hosting when I looked into this a while back and it’s been really great. Takes a minute to get everything setup, especially if you want to have different settings for different types of feeds, but once it’s all set it’s perfect (for my needs at least).

I’ve also got it setup with my domain so I can access the feed from anywhere and that’s been one of my favourite features.

I use it occasionally to try out games on gamepass that I'm not sure I'll enjoy. I'll usually play for about 30 minutes to an hour and then decide if I want to install it or just play something else.

I also occasionally use it on my steamdeck but that's even less often.

I hadn’t kept up with Factorio much over the last little while but I’ve always appreciated how great the Friday Facts are.

Not surprised by the overall theme of the expansion but I didn’t expect a different tech tree for “dlc playthroughs”. I think if it’s reshuffled correctly, it could really help give even the initial part of a playthrough a fresh feel and change up some of my usual strategies. Oh wow, I did not know that had happened. Totally makes sense to move, just had a feeling something had triggered the decision. Lemmy.ca seems to have a more active Plex community but it’s always good to have a backup.

Omg I remember seeing this was being remade but I’ve purposely not looked at anything beyond that. Thank you so much for the detailed guide. I finally got around to finishing the setup yesterday but only had time for a very short raid to test everything out. Definitely looking forward to playing around some more, seems like nearly all my annoyances with Tarkov are mitigated by the various mods you listed (especially KMC). I understand why it’s impossible but private coop would really make this perfect.

Do you have a guide or something to reference to setup EFT Single Player as you’ve described? I haven’t played in a long time (last time was right around when the first versions of the SP mod was made public) because I got fed up with the online experience. I’d love to jump back in to SP eventually to see what’s changed, I definitely miss the EFT gameplay.

I don’t really get how everyone focuses on the ad-free feature as if it’s the only thing that Sync Ultra provides. It also provides text recognition in images, translation in-app, (both requiring constant server work) and will eventually support push notifications (again requiring server work). On top of that, LJ has stated he wants to work on this app full-time, which is only possible if he earns a living from it.

If those features aren’t interesting to a user, there’s always the one-time ad removal option (I’ll admit which is a bit pricey but per OP’s post, is a one time fee and not a subscription).

Personally I use it for a couple services that would be difficult to run separately (ie: deemix + lidarr). I’m also planning on moving all of my services with databases over to compose. I do lose a couple other QOL features but I still prefer this approach to start/stop all related containers instead of manually having to close each one.

I definitely agree with you that some of the restrictions feel very arbitrary (basically everything that doesn’t use sonic analysis should be in the free tier imo). Especially with how bad of an experience music playback is without plexamp. Even as a lifetime plexpass users, I feel they shouldn’t have offered it if it would lead to the situation we have today where they need to get “creative” with monetization since their core users only paid a one-time fee.

To clarify my earlier post, you can definitely allow them to keep their independent account even if they’re in your Plex home. You just need to select “invite Plex user” instead of “create managed account”. It’s not a perfect solution as it gives all those users access to each other’s accounts if no pin is set afterwards. That being said, I personally don’t find that a huge limitation as I wouldn’t share my server with anyone that I wouldn’t trust to respect that. I added a pin only so no one accidentally logs in on my profile as it would give them admin access, all the devices I use regularly I also enable “automatically sign in” so I really only ever need to input my pin when I log into a new device.
