I think it’s one of those “it will be profitable, but not in a short enough time for it to boost my career” kind of games. There is plenty of interest, just not enough for big sales right out the Gate, which is what AAA companies want.

I would do unspeakable things to get a Sid Meier’s: Pirates! Live the Life style game, but with Black Flag controls/graphics.
Honestly, I got a Ship-of-the-Line in that game once when I was like 13, and every game from then on I hunted for them trying to capture a whole fleet, but they were pretty rare.
I want that feeling of “I’m hunting for a specific ship and country/cargo” again. Black flag is still my all time favorite AC
My parents bought a house a couple years ago, and the previous owners thought it would be okay to put a wall in by screwing 2x4s into the existing drywall of the adjacent walls and putting the sheets up on either side of the 2x4.
They also thought that nobody would notice the fresh paint and fresh plywood used to cover up massive amounts of mold, and when it was discovered after the first day they shrugged and went “oh we had no idea” and a judge believed them.
People are a bit nicer in general here, I think, although certain niche subreddit were far more welcoming to newcomers.
I’ve only had two people on lemmy so far tell me my thoughts are stupid without bothering to explain why they feel this way, and only one person has assumed they know my life from a single comment. (homer_so_far.gif)
I have yet to see a single interaction where someone has changed someone else’s mind in an amicable and polite way with both thanking each other for their time though.
I tend to focus less on news post comments though. Someone calling me an idiot because I don’t blindly support something or someone doesn’t phase me.
Someone breaking down my comment about why Picard is a better starfleet captain than Commander Sisko and giving me reasons why I’m stupid for thinking that? That’ll stay with me for a few days.
Perhaps I just don’t interact unless it seems like the general vibe agrees with me, and therefore people are more likely to be nice, because I don’t like rejection and mean comments are just different kinds of rejection, so I hide in places I know will like me.
0 reason to interact when you know there’s a good chance you will come out unhappy, I get it.
Woot! I'm more of a lurker but I comment occasionally (not necessarily smart or informed as they should be ones) and I would love to post in recreations of some of my favorite niche places, but running them is quite an investment…
I'm pumped I can still see star trek memes though.
She was absolutely between a rock and a hard place. You have a responsibility to get everyone home, but you can't just dive straight in and strong arm your way to get there as fast as possible, both because that's a shitty thing to do and because you'll likely face consequences at the very least by starfleet when you get home, maybe by delta species who don't like what you're doing.
Honestly I don't know a single person who has a negative thing to say about Janeway, except maybe she was too restrained sometimes.
How many of the crew, especially the Maquis, had nothing to return to and could have settled on one of the worlds they encountered? That said it's a completely foreign society whose complications and nuances you couldn't possibly be able to comprehend in the few weeks Voyager is within range.
Seska? I'm not aware of a crew member with that name. There was a Cardassian spy on board one of the ships, but… She's no longer a concern.
100% agree with Voyager. I think Picard would handle things with more restraint, and probably would have taken an additional few years to get home, but really it's "exploration… with a twist"
I don't know if we would have gotten protosalamander babies in tng, but then again we got sub rosa so…
I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said, EXCEPT that they're not that different. I think most of the shows have a very unique tone, especially when you go from TNG to DS9, but unless I'm mistaken DS9 was intended to be "different".
Maybe a few of the new ones are pretty similar, that's for sure. But the older ones? Nah.
But I'm not looking for an echo of what I just said, so by all means if anyone wants to disagree with me, by all means! I don't get a chance to talk about trek outside of the internet and I'd love to hear other takes on them.
Edit: and only after posting did I realize you meant the FANS aren't that different, but you do go on to say the shows are pretty consistent so I'll leave this here.
For now, given the size of the user base? Yes.
Will it be forever?
I pray to the Black Mountain Koala, NO.
With a fairly small amount of people, splitting up the fanbase seems counterproductive.
Besides, us lower-decker gotta stick together, unless it's delta shift (who really think Enterprise was the peak)
It's insane to me that I can click on a video that was posted by a creator with under 10k subscribers, less than 15 minutes ago, and it already has dozens of votes for submitted segments.
And some videos, people go waaaaay out for segments, little 2 second skips for subscribe reminders, while blocks rendered down into 5 types of segments so depending on your settings, you might get some of it, or you might get just the meat of the content with no fluff or filler.
I LOVE the "interaction" skip on some content creators, because they like to address the audience unnecessarily trying to drive comment interaction up. I totally get why they do that, and I respect their decision, but I also have no intention of commenting on 90% of videos, so asking "what do YOU think? Head down to the comments and…" will get nothing from me, but might from someone else. And now I can skip those.
Re/vanced and now this have been the best things about YouTube since like 2007.
My last ISP decided your address every 24 hours unless you had an active internet connection (currently up/downloading).
Given I used to run servers for friends on different games, it was super annoying.
Honestly i think I'd prefer that now. Last year I got a notice about Capcom complaining of piracy. My wife and I are the only ones who even use our internet, it's a hidden network and our nearest neighbor is 1/4 mile down the road on one side, and about 2 miles on the other. I haven't played a Capcom game since my sister and I used to play RE5 when it first came out. So tell me, Capcom. If you're so insistent it was me, and I know it wasn't, who was it then? By their logic, I'm already guilty because I pay for the service.
“I don’t understand, if you don’t want crushed orphans, just don’t toss them in the orphan crushing machine”
Well maybe they shouldn’t have an orphan crushing machine in the first place.
