It’s really fast, has nice vim keybindings and has the potential to be a great open source VSCode alternative.
I don’t use it yet since it doesn’t have a built in Python debugger but I’ve been watching it closely. I really want to switch to it someday soon

$500 would be an insane price. 16TB drives alone are like $300-500 CAD
From my experience, companies would rather just pay for a commercial license. Anything abnormal gets trashed and banned in my company.
I think it’s more easy to understand “pay exactly this amount to use commercially” than the legal and accounting teams trying to work out how much to pay when you say 1% of their revenue to FOSS software. You can always donate the profits anyway
Yeah that’s me. I signed up for and used beehaw for a month before switching to my current lemmy.ca. My old account would definitely be counted the same way as someone who signed up, got bored and left
You can really see the difference between opening VSCode and Zed, even more so if you compare it to something like JB’s Fleet editor.
To be fair, it’s not the easiest to compare right now since Zed is lacking a million features of Code, but if all the work they’ve done keeps it as fast as it is with features like user extensions it will be well worth it.
I usually have ~10 different VS Code windows open at a time (yay microservices ❤️), so having something as fast as Zed would be really appreciated.

I have it installed on my work laptop and give it a try every few updates. I really like it. The vim emulation is pretty fleshed out and it definitely feels a lot faster than VScode.
I believe it’s kind of out of scope of the project at the moment, but I’d really love to see debugger support. It’s the only thing keeping me on VS code
I have a large amount of users on my Jellyfin instance including people who are more tech illiterate and nobody has had any issues. The setup of Jellyfin is probably more complicated than Plex (just guessing, I haven’t tried it) but besides that, the UI is very user friendly
DuckDNS is run by two guys who are funded by donations. I do agree with what you’re saying about free services but I’m more willing to trust DuckDNS in this case
Hah, I just played through Black Mesa recently and was thinking it could use a remake since it’s starting to show it’s age a bit. I’d love to see it done using Source 2
Edit: after actually reading the article, apparently this is like a reverse remake which is still pretty neat
The people behind those reverse engineered servers are legends. I recently was able to play through the original Demon’s Souls with fully working multiplayer which just blew my mind
I don’t find the search too bad but what does make it difficult is digging through a million forks of a library. Sometimes I want to find how other people used an obscure library method and I end up having to wade through endless forks with the same repeated bit of code.
This is more a complaint of people using forking as a like button but I do wish there was an option to exclude them from search.
I played through Demon's Souls on a ps3 emulator and then the PS5 version. The PS3 version with a 60fps+1440p mod is great but the new version is still worth getting a PS5 for imo
If you're going the vim route I'd go with NeoVim. The lua support for plugins has resulted in some really great IDE-like plugins. That being said, I still prefer VScode with vim mode.
There's actually a cool plugin for VSCode that lets you bridge NeoVim into it if you want the best of both worlds
It’d be harder for IA since they have hundreds of PBs of hard drives. You need like a warehouse for it so it’s a lot harder to hop around
Ah yeah tbh I only use fish so I’ve never had to bother upgrading bash. And actually yeah the M1 can be annoying. I have an M1 Mac for work and some libraries are a massive pain to get working on it
