DDOS against a little self hosted instance isn’t really a concern I’d have. I’d be more concerned with the scraping of private information, ransomware, password compromises, things of that nature. If you keep your edge devices on the latest security patches and you are cognizant on what you are exposing and how, you’ll be fine.
No worries man, I wasn’t complaining at all. I really liked the episode I listened to so I subbed and will check out more. I almost did the same thing earlier today listening to Dayseeker. I started posting it but realized it’s not Synthwave lol.
Droid Bishop is definitely a solid choice! I feel like he’s not quite as well known as he should be in the scene but that might just be my perception lol

I’ve listened to some of there stuff here and there but they always got lost in the mix of other channels doing similar things so never stood out to me. I’ll sub though and get them in my rotation.

Listening to it now (Episode 046) and so far it’s closer to some genres of EDM. I am definitely still enjoying it, he’s picked some sick beats and the prose on the side is an interesting idea. I’m guessing I will have to dig a little further to get to the Synthwave.

Oh man Lonely City is a fantastic track anyways but that one live hits a very niche spot in my soul. Endless Summer is classic too. That video is a great example of them live even if it doesn’t have the fullness of the feeling of actually being there. When that sax hits it’s just a whole other kind of feeling. I was able to be right at the stage with that in my face and I damn near lost all composure. I now understand what these guys were going through.

I really don’t think anything justifies the massive data collection that currently happens. While “feeding the algorithm” may be their superficial excuse, data harvesting is really there for the resale value.
I don’t want to keep them from it. I just prefer they go to their other platforms for it. Because by inviting it to this platform, it degrades this platform in my eyes. I don’t have another place to go to get away from that content, they do have a place they can go to for that content. I’d appreciate it if we can respect that boundary. Keep this place free from the corporations that are destroying so much of our world. At least as much as possible. Nothing good can come from opening this door, and if it opens, history will repeat itself once more because there is always a new crop of people unwilling to listen to warnings. No good comes from aligning with growth at all costs corporations. It just isn’t possible.
I get why some want it. I just wish they’d stop. They want ease of access to all the things they like. I hate those other platforms and have no accounts on them and I don’t want to see them here and prefer the community driven content over yet another algorithm pushing garbage I hate. They always try to spin their algorithms as finding content you want and tailoring it to you. But it’s never the case. They take the vile shit that they support and push that, mingling it with a few crumbs of real content. And eventually the crumbs disappear too. I don’t want any of that corporate nonsense around. I really like a good large community without that influence.
I mean… To be a little bit fair, the middle east doesn’t police things nearly as much as a general rule. Lots of people break the law with zero consequences. I lived next door to Saudi for a time and it was a little better where I was but still a world of difference in adherence to and enforcement of general laws compared to most western countries.
