Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL that Anthony Kiedis of The Red Hot Chili Peppers is a self-confessed child molester, according to his autobiography 'Scar Tissue'English
1·3 months agoYes, but law enforcement can absolutely do something about this. Whether it makes it through court is a different question. Clear cases like that go either way all the time.

15·3 months agoTo my understanding, that is only true for civil offenses, not criminal ones. Rape is a criminal offense pretty much everywhere, so cooperation of the victim isn’t necessary to prosecute, especially with a confession on a silver platter like that.

51·3 months agoGeorgia is also a country. Gets confusing because some Americans will tell your their state when asked where they’re from, even when overseas. I’ve complimented someone who’d said they’re from Georgia on their English before.
(On a side note, can you imagine travelling to the US, being asked where you’re from, then going ‘oh I’m from alto adige originally’)

1·6 months agoNo obviously. But any vehicle you use to participate in traffic with has to be certified, so that it’s safe enough for both you and others according to certain norms. So you couldn’t drive a child’s toy, which can’t be certified this way, on a public road. You can of course still use it elsewhere and doing so doesn’t require certification.

3·6 months agoHonestly pretty sure it isn’t the law in Germany either. They have to get their cars certified as street legal, which wouldn’t make any sense at all if they could just use a toy car instead. Why not say your car that has broken lights is actually a toy, and thus legal, if you could evade certification that way? Doesn’t make sense.
The wishing they weren’t a specialist is so real. I wish my psychiatrist was also my GP and my therapist. I’ve found out through her about diagnoses that are in my chart that nobody ever bothered to tell me about and that I overlooked in there, as well as about off label medication uses that you mentioned and medication or illness interactions I never would’ve guessed. Outside her domain too, e.g. between my thyroid meds and ibuprofen. All the GPs I’ve ever been to are either jaded, refuse to learn or admit you might know something they dont, or don’t take you seriously.
That doesn’t have anything to do with what I said. People fleeing the US will not be granted asylum in any country of the world due to what I said. They can apply for it alright, just won’t do them any good and they’ll be sent right back.
There’s a lot of politics that go into who recohnises a country as bad enough to flee from. With what a giant threat the US is, other countries won’t risk taking its citizens as refugees any time soon.

10·6 months agoI recently went to Germany too and there’s such an uncomfortably large number of cops everywhere. Do you happen to have more info on what you talked about? Id love to read up on it and potentially want friends who live there.
Thanks a lot! I’ll try to figure it out myself first, and might get back to you if the need arises!
To be very honest, I’m also a tad embarrassed to share my code. I guess I’ll ask my professor about this.
I’m sorry to tell you this but people do not, in fact, publish mathematical proofs on GitHub routinely. You publish them on arxive once the paper is done. And then in a journal. The solvers themselves aren’t even what it’s about at all, they’re just to do numerical experiments with to have some examples. They aren’t immediately useful for any applications outside niche research.
Because I’m in academia and it’s a slow process to get things published in a way that ‘counts’ to the university and scientific community. I often need to implement stuff first to check a few things, whether it’s viable etc.
Nobody has built a tool that executes a mathematical method that I have developed or at least adapted, at least not before I publish the method.

Someone else using fortran in research checking in. In particle physics, were basically writing huge, physics heavy Markov chain monte Carlos in it. Just one example.
