Build her a server, install it at her house, set up some sort of automated DVD ripping mechanism so that she can digitize her own collection, wait for the inevitable tech support call, then go spend a Sunday afternoon fixing her server and digitizing her collection for her while she makes you dinner. You get to call it “quality time”, and you get fed while keeping her happy and her collection as far away from yours as possible. Win/win, everyone is happy.
That sounds like an Apple product to me.
When you think about it, all meals are breakfast because you’re breaking the fast that started after the last meal.
And most just fry the bread, instead of grilling the actual cheese.
I learned a long time ago that the manufacturer doesn’t matter much on the long run. They all have a bad model occasionally. I have 500GB Seagate drives that still work, and some 1TB drives that died within a year. I’ve had good luck with recent WD Red 4TB drives, but my 2TB Green drives have all died on me. I had a some of the Hitachi Deskstar drives that worked perfectly for years when no one would touch them because of a bad production run. I currently have a Toshiba 8TB that I had never heard of before, but seems to be rock solid for the last year.
Pick a size that you want, look at what’s available, and research the reasonably priced ones to see if anyone is complaining about them. Review sites can be useful, but raw complaints in user forums will give you a better idea of which ones to avoid.
It’s only select movies that I’m getting in 4K, and any Star Trek that comes out in 4K or maybe the Star Wars 4K77 fan edit that was just released. But even then, they add up fast. I can barely tell the difference, but for some stuff I just want the best available.
Edit: I also did this when 720p VS 1080p was a thing. For a vast majority of stuff, 720p is fine and I’m not going to update that stuff. Most stuff released today isn’t even available or 720p anymore, so I’ve defaulted to 1080p for most new stuff.
I already am self hosting everything. I have an 8TB drive over half full at the moment, and filling up fast now that I have a 4K TV. I also have an Openvpn server so that I can access my content when I’m away. I’ve had this setup since before torrents were even a thing.
Am I the only one that still just uses a VPN with Pirate Bay and Magnetdl? I only download videos and music, no games, and I’m finding 98%of what I want in the resolution I want. Is it really worth setting up the rest of it?
Nah, I’m just leaving it since that was part of his transition, both in character and in real life. To deny that would be to deny his story.
Is it because it automatically slams you over to a scam website that tells me my system is heavily damaged by 2 viruses?
Brand is HP/Samsung.
There’s really only one solution. Dump it and buy a old Brother laser jet. HP printers are specifically designed to make it as difficult as possible to use unless you use it exactly the way they want you to use it. And you’re trying to use it in a way they don’t approve. Specifically, you’re trying to use a Samsung branded printer in an area where only the HP version is sold. I know it’s convoluted, I know it’s a minor distinction. But this is just how HP works. And it’s best that you accept it and move on before you waste anymore money on it.
Edit: Proof…
You could look at it as a currency conversion, then buying a product with that new currency.
Yes, that’s how money laundering works. Whether it’s crypto, gold, or fine art, the end result is still the same. You get drugs, they get clean cash, everyone is happy.
Are you really “buying” something with crypto in that case, or is it just a complicated money laundering scheme?
All I want is for one of these super rich fucks to start obsessing about preserving Earth and building massive carbon capture plants that also generate clean drinking water from the air. Dump billions into pulse fusion reactors and build them into every carbon capture plant. Create a stable biodome…right here, on Earth. And use the entire planet for the experiment. Can someone please get on that?
For some of us, rather than an echo chamber, it’s just validation of our experiences and learning the language to describe abuse. You can’t get help unless you know what you’re getting help for. And when you learn to recognize gaslighting and manipulation, you can begin to counter it.
The thing that people have to remember is that Discovery gave us Anson Mount and Ethan Peck. That alone should make up for any problems with pacing or character development.
Replacing the battery isn’t that difficult. You should have kept it…
Wanted to play some games, didn’t have money but I did know someone that knew someone that knew someone that ran a BBS that had some pirated games.
Yes, I’m that old.
