  • I think my coworkers follow the bosses example here.

Yes, there is no support. No way of reflecting on how the work went or how to improve things. Everything is picked up while running. My coworkers seem to think that’s normal. That the challenge of the job is to literally survive it, day to day (we’re constantly short on personnel).

you might be fleeing a house on fire without knowing it.

    I do know it.

Oh, and the most essential question of all to ask: why was this position open in the first place?

    Parental leave.

But there’s another coworker who just got hired. They experienced the same lack of onboarding and managements unwillingness to commit. They are also leaving now. Her predecessor most certainly left because of what a shitshow that place is.

  • Recently I watched a movie in a cinema (Vie privée; a well made murder mystery). Haven’t been for ages. It was almost empty; maybe a dozen people. Imagine my surprise when after the movie, the foyer was packed with people, mostly teenagers. I was so baffled that for a moment I didn’t even realize they were waiting for the next movie; anyhow, the ticket seller told me it’s “some cult movie” called Five Nights At Freddy’s 2. So, last night I watched Five Nights At Freddy’s. A fun and touching movie about 1980’s animatronics puppets, with some mild horror motives.

PS: yes, it’s part of a video game franchise. Surprisingly well made though.

And now about Vie privée, the latest Jodie Foster movie. It was a nice whodunnit with a strong psychological strain. I liked it well enough. All Paris, Jodie Foster talking mostly French with occasional American swearing. The ending was a little rushed, the resolution a little simplistic, but a nice watch somewhere between crime and drama.

  • First of all, most media players are streaming/network capable, they don’t even advertise it. Just feed it the URL.

You can even integrate user/password combos for http simple auth into a direct link. Not the safest; just to avoid people getting wind of a free radio station and overloading your server. Unless that’s you want, but then you should be aware of legal stuff.

On the server side, you can run your own radio station with something like Icecast. That’s its own topic.

If you want to choose what you listen to remotely, you are most likely looking at something Subsonic-compatible (apps exist). People say Navidrome is good. I am currently running jellyfin, it’s not subsonic compatible but apps exist, too.
