One of my first proper mega builds! It had a full interior and garden and more builds inside the walls.

It’s supposed to be the administrative core of the settlement essentially. Secure, but not completely shut off

then I think it makes sense to have a decent size throne room, because they would need to have guests from the settlement to solve disputes and problems and messengers from other kingdoms. Maybe make some hallways and rooms? Norman castles liked to have the throne room at the top of the castle but others had it differently. Many castles were also living quarters so they would have things like bedrooms, servants quarters, barracks, kitchen, great hall (for feasting), library, even a blacksmith and place of worship etc.

Maybe I should design the throne room after the House of Lords. The castle is definitely supposed to be the main residence of The King. A chapel would be cool, but I don’t really like the idea of a private chapel and being apart from the peasantry, I have a Cathedral in the settlement as well. I wonder if I could build a new church though, maybe with a special balcony and an access passage from the castle.

well medieval people loved churches. Look at Cambridge. There are dozens of them. So cant go wrong with multiple ones. And traditionally the royalty would have their own services exclusively from commoners but of course your world does not have to adhere to those rules. And if you already have a cathedral then it makes sense not to repeat the build. House of Lords would be cool but to me that does not really seem like a castle though definitely an administrative building. So maybe I misunderstood what you wanted. I say try it out in creative mode first and use real world pics to help you perhaps. Good luck!

            Yep, I’m using creative!

My world isn’t really a theme or anything. A chinese style pagoda is overlooking the place from a distance. I built it because I thought it would be a fun challenge. However for castles, I do default to norman style.

The castle will both be administrative and secure, but mainly administrative. I’m not really basing the society on medieval times. There are some ideas I have heard like how the old lord of where I grew up had his mansion at the town square because he wanted people to be able to walk up and knock his door, etc. Or how not attending the Church with commoners just seems wrong and unchristian. Although chapels are cool, a personal private prayer chapel will likely be a feature.
