I decided to try a ranked battle so I could try and obtain my Greninjite. It went horribly wrong. I was the only one in the battle with 0 points.

I’m not a PvP person at all in any games, so even though I did the bare minimum and it only took an hour or so I hated every second of it. As much as I want to grab a Sports Ball for 100% items, I really don’t want to go any further. I came 1st a couple of times and 4th once, but in general I’d hover around 1st-2nd with a Greninja, Machamp/Victreebel & Aerodactyl.

I’m not looking forward to doing it twice more, but I have Delphox and Chesnaught on my roster so I’ll have to (I’ve recreated everything I’ve trained in previous games for randomising my team every day in the endgame, EV training is faster than ever now).

I have not even looked at EV training yet, but I am still in the middle of the story.

You get EVs for a knockout AND a catch, so you can double up. Once you get the Power items there are good spots to target stats, or you can just run through low level areas, attack and catch everything, then use berries (which only cost 200 each) to clear out the stats you didn’t want. It’s super convenient. Before getting the Power items I took a full day to train my team, it’s not worth doing it early.

I hate the fact that it pretty much takes all strategy out and it becomes just bringing the top five strongest Pokemon in the game and have at it. I enjoy strategizing and making cool teams but you end up just getting demolished. I did still manage even then to grind my way up to rank J. I would have like three matches in a row where I get dumpstered and then win first place three in a row it just be like that.

It seems like the type of game to not even think about, just feel it out and go go go, improvise as you play. Idk if you’ve ever played FFXIV’s pvp, but when watching Legends Z-A’s multiplayer royale I get the same hectic feeling of trying to target the weakest looking player and gang up on em, while at the same time watchin your own back and trying to survive yourself. The battles seem quick and easily spammable.

I haven’t played that far in this game just yet, but I am actually looking forward to trying it out after taking my time through the story and such. Looks like a lot of fun if you don’t be so hard on yourself.
