I caught my ex girlfriend pouring grease down the sink of her rental and she had never heard that you weren’t supposed to do that and she owned her own house for years. I dunno how you get that far without anyone correcting you but i guess stuff just slips through the cracks sometimes.
It’s actually not that bad for your pipes, it’s bad downstream for the utility, where everyone’s grease comes together in a giant mass called a “fatberg”. So you definitely shouldn’t do it, but it’s not as acutely terrible as a tampon.
