I’m working on a project about the SCP canon or the lack there of and I’m wondering what the community thinks about the canon. Now I’m aware about the canon hub and the message on the top of the page
“The idea that there is no canon is a bit silly at times. It’s not that we don’t have any — It’s that we have a multitude which touch, cross, and dip into each other. It’s up to you, as the reader, to decide what you believe and what you embrace as the heart of the universe.
That doesn’t mean, though, that authors lack intent or design, and collaboration is the heart of innovation.”
There’s around 50ish canons officially listed on the site and they vary wildly and I love that about the Foundation it gives lotta different possibilities for writing. However I feel that for most articles at least there’s the very basic canon of there’s anomalies, the Foundation exist, and the other basic things like that but I’d like to know the community’s thoughts thanks for reading!

I am open for any of the canons. Every time I read a new SCP I just assume it’s in its own canon universe until stated otherwise in the article. Trying to somehow weave it together will induce headaches. And I don’t like headaches.
If you really want to do so…this would be my go: They are all canon at the same time. It’s basically what I already do, just justify it by using different timelines. Bam! Problem solved in the laziest way possible. Now the Malidramagiuan is as much of the BBEG as the Crimson King is. Even tho I’m not a fan of the BBEG in the SCP universe, but you get the point. See every document you read as a window into another universe.
I am almost sure that this already is more or less kind of a base canon for the community? Or a rule set by the admins by telling the community to not harass authors for not using the 100% right K class scenario designation and that it’s up to them how to write their articles.
Which tells me two things:
-
This must have happened an awful lot of times.
-
By doing so they probably unknowingly set up the multiple universes base canon.
-
The plot is that our species is basically screwed, but we hide things away and distract ourself pretending is nothing…
…ah, wait. That’s our plot.
SCP foundation lock away strange stuff.
Honestly, I kind of like that there isn’t one. At least, not yet.
Right now, we have a website that is packed full of what amounts to folk tales. I honestly believe this is where all great myths start out - just a lot of little narrative islands scattered across the landscape. With time, some stories will resonate with more people, and will slowly coalesce into a canon of sorts. It’ll take generations, if any of it survives to be handed down at all. And you kind of want that organic filtering to take place, because that will filter things down to the strongest stories of the bunch.
I figure the easiest base canon is that SCP 1 is never revealed and that most of the XK class scenarios are exceedingly unlikely worst case projections by the foundation which explains why none of them wiped out humanity in the stone age, or the entire universe before earth even formed.
