  • Which is why RIGHT NOW we need to force government control to keep us safe and bail the companies out who oversold these AI tools that most definitely work, most definitely have a viable business model and are most definitely backed up by companies without astronomically inflated valuations… driven up by funding one another in a circle of bullshit wallstreet has endorsed out of a love of this kind of bullshit bubble and the opportunities it provides to make money on the rise and crash!!!

If we don’t do this soon, the ruling class risks not being able to pull out of the pump and dump of the AI bubble and sail away into the sunset by successfully socializing the immense costs of the bursting of the bubble while preserving the privatized profits off the initial expansion of it. It is not fair to put this kind of suffocating debt and pressure on corporations attempting to innovate and provide economic growth!

    Corporations are people too!

I almost never want to slap Bernie Sanders in the face, but I really really do right now…

  • Ok, here you go, here is your homework!

The con of neoliberalism is now widely understood across the political spectrum. It is harder and harder to hide its predatory nature, including its demands for huge public subsidies (Amazon, for example, recently sought and received multibillion-dollar tax breaks from New York and Virginia to set up distribution centers in those states). This has forced the ruling elites to make alliances with right-wing demagogues who use the crude tactics of racism, Islamophobia, homophobia, bigotry and misogyny to channel the public’s growing rage and frustration away from the elites and toward the vulnerable. These demagogues accelerate the pillage by the global elites while at the same time promising to protect working men and women. Donald Trump’s administration, for example, has abolished numerous regulations, from greenhouse gas emissions to net neutrality, and slashed taxes for the wealthiest individuals and corporations, wiping out an estimated $1.5 trillion in government revenue over the next decade, while embracing authoritarian language and forms of control.

Neoliberal rhetoric, with its emphasis on individual freedoms, can effectively “split off libertarianism, identity politics, multiculturalism, and eventually narcissistic consumerism from the social forces ranged in pursuit of social justice through the conquest of state power.”

  • Video games are more than part of our culture, they extend into areas far beyond just entertainment.

Games are a way of understanding dynamic, hopelessly interdependent systems whether in an attempt to predict how dynamic situations with multiple actors with differing objectives will turn out or better understand history as a living dynamic thing that happened to occur one way (see Cole Werhle’s board game Pax Pamir 2e or John Company as perfect examples of this).

The evolution of good game design and the general progress of most games getting better UI systems over time as designers figure out how to best represent complex situations and choices to players is also FAR more important than just a nice consequence of iterative design, it is the groundwork for good architecture in the software realm in terms of how software is experienced by humans.

    longer thought

This is why I find the dismissiveness of virtual interactive experiences as somehow lesser to “real” experiences so insulting, video games make us more human by making us able to express ourselves more truthfully, intuitively and vividly in digital spaces… providing entirely new ways of people finding theirselves, which is the most human thing to do! The rest of systems in modern society DESPERATELY need to learn from good video game design and UI principles, and this lame attempt to “gamify” things is such a superficial phoned in movement that I can’t even use the word “gamify” without putting quotes on it… it doesn’t count.

Learning from the wisdom of game design is NOT just making everything into a points system that constantly prods you with rewards and goals like a casino, that is an insult to actual good video game design… but I digress…

The biggest mistake people will continue to make in the early 21st century is to treat the medium of video games as purely an expression of artistic pursuit, it is that and so much more. I mean… look at Ukraine… who do you think has been training to fly FPV drones for hours and hours in abstracted contexts that nonetheless drill the same core competencies you need to be able to fly FPV drones aggressively?

What pushed the development of graphics cards for years and years before anyone thought to apply them to machine learning?

It wasn’t war, it wasn’t business, it was video gaming

  • Critical thinking is less a skill and more a value.

I disagree fundamentally, I think it is a self-deceiving trap to fall into the belief that critical thinking is a value you can hold up to the light, check to see if it is true and then place back within your heart… critical thinking is rather a practice which is why good universities emphasize that they are not there to distribute information but rather to serve as centers of practice with regards to learning.

In musical practice there is always the requirement for self reflection and adjustment, that is why good teachers are so helpful, they point out what is invisible to you but overwhelmingly present in blocking your further progress.

What inspires people to practice are not values, rather only some genuine desire for the pursuit itself can motivate you without burning you out to the core.
