Luckily the .exe’s MZ header is pretty small. But in this case it was necessary: when DOS loads a .com binary, it can’t know how much memory it will need, so DOS just gives it all free memory. But then the program can’t launch another, because all memory is in use. So that’s why I had to add the MZ header which allows specifying the memory needs.

That’s true! Since there is no privilege separation in DOS, it needs to do no elevation so it can just execute the command directly. But should a future version of DOS implement unprivileged users or age verification, SUDO can be extended to support it.

I started the Witcher 3 and immediately the world feels like a checklist and for some reason I can’t take Gerald seriously. He looks comical, like a teen’s drawing, and the movement feels completely ungrounded.

• Circut Superstars. I’ll never become good at this but close to finishing it on Amateur
• Diablo 4. I dislike the MMOification and despite Blizzard, but got it with the Xbox so might as we’ll play it. The campaign and monster bashing are fine
• Sound Shapes. Sweet game, taking it one album at a time
• Trials Rising. Cleaning up the Hard tracks and that ain’t no lie
• Dirt 2.0 demo. I’m OK at CMR 2 and 05 but I have no idea how to control my car in this one. It’ll come with time

No it isn’t, just checked my copy to be sure. I played it on my regular 3DS XL.

I did get the M30. It’s delightful but there’s one problem - it looks like The Lion King is one of the few games the Retro Receiver has a problem with. Any button presses while holding a direction on the D-pad interrupt the direction on the D-pad. So a roll becomes a crouch and a running jump becomes a standing jump. I’ve reached out to support, hopefully they can help, otherwise I’ll have to return it.

I ended up applying something called Liquiwire, which seems to work well so far! I can finally play The Lion King properly again ^_.

That looks interesting and worth trying. I’ll have a look to see if I can find anything like that locally

Is buying a used controller out of the question?

The backup plan is to do either that or get an 8bitdo M30 with a retro receiver!

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and I’m loving it. People might have been tired of the presentation but Nintendo fans ought tot look beyond that - it has great level design, difficulty, secrets and a super tough challenge mode that’ll keep me busy for a while.

Super Mario Odyssey, wrapping up the moons 4 years after finishing. Not sure if that’s for me, but giving it a chance.

Yes… although I think it still stores the play time, just not show it.

I regularly play the 3DS still and it’s much better there! Play time of every game I ever played, average session time, etc.

I think it shows “first played …” for the first 10 days (iirc) as a privacy measure. Haven’t found a way around it. After 10 days it shows the number of hours played.

Thanks! And for CMR 2 it turns out it was working fine, the PS2 analog stick is just a bit more primitive to what we’re used to now. But much better than digital in any case!
