It’s all FOMO. There’s a big narrative in the executive world that you either fully embrace AI or get left behind and wither. AI companies have spent most of the trillions of bubble money marketing this narrative.

If you truly believe it’s as powerful and transformative as it’s been sold as, then this mentality makes sense.

I’m certain that everyone who isn’t invested in the AI industry told them this was a terrible idea. AI companies have worked extremely hard to oversell their capabilities, and large corporations are always frothing at the mouth to eliminate as many jobs as possible.

Labor is expensive. Expert labor: triply so. If there’s even a promise of a chance that corporations can eliminate the necessary expense of labor, they will take it.

It’s way more interactive and a great way to connect with your kids at the end of the day. The face to face connection is so important for their development, fostering an healthy relationship with them, and your own mental health.

Plus it can be a way for both of you to explore creatively a little. Try doing the voices, ask them questions about the story, etc. If you enjoy signing and/or playing music, that can also foster a similar collaborative experience.

Can you elaborate on how banking is “safer” on smart phones than Windows and Linux?

I really want Linux phones to catch on, but even watching demos, while they are making progress, it seems like they are still very far behind.

A phone for me (and many others) is more a lifestyle utility than a tech gadget, so reliability and compatibility is paramount. Things need to just work the first time every time for me to trust relying on it for important things.

I still follow the development of some projects and contribute when I can, but it doesn’t look like it’ll be a realistic option (for my use case at least) any time soon.

I honestly can’t even tell if Jennifer Gibbons (ESA VP of State Government Affairs who made the original statement) even has any idea what Private Servers are. It’s almost as if she was equating them to something like the community run WoW servers, which regardless of the morality argument, were in fact breaking ToS by circumventing WoW’s subscription fees.

In the case of Minecraft, that argument doesn’t apply. Minecraft has no online subscription. Private servers were the only way to even play online until Realms. While Mojang doesn’t officially support private server administration, they do provide downloads for the server binary and documentation on their official website. It’s not just allowed, it’s explicitly listed as a way to play.

Obviously they would prefer to push people toward Realms as an extra revenue stream, but the way multiplayer is architected in Minecraft makes this argument make zero sense.

I got it at launch and while I didn’t experience nearly as many bugs as others did, I found the gameplay really awkward and confusing, so I bounced off it.

I picked it back up around the 2.0/Phantom Liberty Launch, and I loved it! Most of the game had been overhauled at that point, so it was a completely different experience.

Yeah, they added FSD boost after I was pretty late game, so I did the ol’, “That’s way too long of a super-cruise… pass.” method.

Note that payouts are proportional to this distance, so if a mission has a suspiciously high reward, check that distance. If the travel time is worth it (like if you’re multitasking or something), then go ahead and get that bag. If you want a more active play session, IMO it’s more fun to do more shorter missions.

A couple things for this pain point:

1. Congratulations! You’ve officially been burned by the same pitfall to which every CMDR has fallen victim at some point.
2. The old-school way of avoiding this problem is to just not take missions with stations that are really far from the jump-in point. When accepting missions this distance will be displayed in the details. IMO, anything over a couple thousand light-seconds is going to feel really slow.
3. The new-school solution was introduced relatively recently: FSD boost. If you equip an enhanced FSD module, you can press the boost button in supercruise to significantly increase your acceleration and reduce supercruise times. You have to be vigilant though, because FSD boost will overshoot your target very quickly if you don’t stop the boost on time.
