  • They’re clearing out the scene before the switch 2 releases because they perceive the current emulators as a major threat somehow.

Which I assume means that the new switch is similar enough in architecture that it would be relatively trivial to ship a fully functional emulator on hardware release.

Pretty insane because at least in the USA, emulation is protected by law, except if someone can successfully argue that you are bypassing DRM which is illegal.

In a working system, this wouldn’t be an issue but I imagine neither Yuzu nor Ryjunix would want to deal with Nintendo’s insane law team that could wreck them financially in a matter of days before even entering a court room.

I hope someone either makes an anonymous dev team for a future project, or gets assistance from a consumer justice firm/group to properly argue in court to shut Nintendo down. They really should not be able to do this because it was already a thing 24 years ago:

Sony Computer Entertainment v. Connectix Corporation, 203 F.3d 596 (2000), commonly referred to as simply Sony v. Connectix, is a decision by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals which ruled that the copying of a copyrighted BIOS software during the development of an emulator software does not constitute copyright infringement, but is covered by fair use. The court also ruled that Sony’s PlayStation trademark had not been tarnished by Connectix Corp.'s sale of its emulator software, the Virtual Game Station.

  • Pizzagate was kind of a joke though, all the damage from the email leaks involving the DNC was already done by then.

The only thing it accomplished was maybe slightly increasing Republican votes. Everyone on the left side had already decided how they would vote.

It’s similar to Harris in that she chose to ignore the uncommitted movement a while ago, which means most of the left has already decided how they’re gonna vote. Any last minute details are unlikely to change much unless it’s seriously huge.

  • Honestly DCTs make up for it, especially when your customer base is mostly people who don’t know how to drive anyway.

Using a manual is easy, but using it to go fast can actually be pretty hard. You have to time everything right, compensate for a bunch of conditions, coax the shifter because its using synchros, feather the clutch accordingly, heel-toe downshift correctly, etc. It’s extremely rewarding and useful if you actually want to have complete control over your car, but I doubt your average rich guy is gonna want to put that much effort into driving.

Manual shifting a modern Lambo would just be such a chore with how fast the RPM changes too (plus the loss of power from clutch would be even more noticeable). Current high end manuals just choose to stay with 6 gears so the gap stays comfortable, but you obviously lose some efficiency.

DCTs will do that all for you, the only thing you lose is a mechanical shifter (which if you’re into manuals you very much miss lol) and the ability to do some clutch tricks (ie loss of some mechanical controls because its automatic).

Now putting a regular old torque converting automatic transmission into a sports car is a waste (and has many examples of such). They are very slow because they aren’t deigned to rapidly change gears like you can in a manual. Even a CVT would be better from a practicality standpoint.

  • Even DLSS only works great for some types of games.

Although there have been some clever uses of it, lots of games could gain a lot from proper efficiency of the game engine.

War Thunder runs like total crap on even the highest end hardware, yet World of Warships has much more detailed ships and textures running fine off an HDD and older than GTX 7XX graphics.

Meanwhile on Linux, Compiz still runs crazy window effects and 3D cube desktop much better and faster than KDE. It’s so good I even recommend it for old devices with any kid of gpu because the hardware acceleration will make your desktop fast and responsive compared to even the lightest windows managers like openbox.

TF2 went from 32 bit to 64 bit and had immediate gains in performance upwards of 50% and almost entirely removing stuttering issues from the game.

Batman Arkham Knight ran on a heavily modified version of Unreal 3 which was insane for the time.

Most modern games and applications really don’t need the latest and greatest hardware, they just need to be efficiently programmed which is sometimes almost an art itself. Slapping on “AI” to reduce the work is sort of a lazy solution that will have side effects because you’re effectively predicting the output.
