Bean pirates invading the Thai rice fields.
Salted cured meats like pigtails, beef and cod are a staple in the Caribbean kitchen. I use them often.
Thank you. My wife was visiting her dad (who is not doing well). She doesn’t like beans so I had the opportunity and made this for my son and me.
Well the thumbnail doesn’t lie.

Hear hear!
It is harder to get nowadays, we call it knolraap or meiraap in the Netherlands. The greens are rarely eaten because supermarkets don’t sell it whole, it is mostly processed into strips or whole with the greens cut off. Also it is mostly cultivated here as cow feed.
Very good eats, luckely we have farm stores in our neighbourhood and it is available all year round. I like it stir fried with rice noodles.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL - the recorder can actually make decent music. Ralf Bienioschek performs BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY a Recorder Cover of the song by QUEEN. And it's a good cover.
10·5 months agoBlokfluit in Dutch,
It was a mandatory instrument on the Rudolf Steiner school I attended back in the day. 20 kids blowing that thing horribly. My music teacher was actually a conductor of the North Holland Philharmonic Orchestra. Must have been torture for him.

11·5 months agoOrdered a PCI m.2 x2 adapter card just now, a 1 TB (system) and 2TB (games) NVME drive to start gaming on Bazzite.
Everything neatly on 1 PCI adapter card so I can test on both my game rigs. For now to dual boot (or from bios) as I am inexperienced with Linux, but hoping to ditch W11 on both of them.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Your old android phone is begging to be a cheap home server!
12·5 months agoOne can extend battery life with Home Assistant and any phone that can run the HA companion app.
I have a Samsung S9+ stuck on my fridge as a home assistant remote with a script controlling a 5V/1A charger + power switch. It will turn on when the S9+ battery is at 20% and off when at 80%. Charges slow but that is on purpose. HA monitors it’s battery health as well and will notify me when the state changes.

Citybuilders@sh.itjust.works•Chill city-builder Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles just got a massive update that adds an 'OP AF' new airship, as the developer urges players to check out his game: 'Any review helps...'
3·7 months agoHeh, seeing the developer is Tomas Sala brings back memories. I used to work for his dad Luc Sala, Tomas and his brother just started their game studio back then.

4·9 months agoMedieval Dynasty. City building is just an aspect of the game though.
Yes I agree it is great. I am using it on a Raspberry Pi 400 for pihole. It’s lean and conveniant.
Looks very, very tasty. I would be happy to get your meal served.

3·10 months agoFrom friends and a part family and were I am from…Amsterdam. Mostly family…
My sisters are married to Egyptian, Suriname and Moroccan SO’s.
And then. My SO is Sefardic, I am supposed to be catholic…we all get together fine. I have ex-girlfriends from Poland, Ukraine and other parts of the world with good food, learned some love, language and recipes.
Good food is an important thing in my life, I have grown up skinny and underfed on a (fad in those days) macrobiotic diet.
I think the thing is to learn the basic cooking techniques, respect different cultures, eat at good homes and restaurants, write down the serious effort meals you cook, you’ll be sorry when you forget and you or your guests loved it, and have a bit of that Spongebob imagination when combining your menu.

Heh pfffew, nice to hear.
