  • My first operating system was AmigaOS 1.3, then I didn’t have a computer through my teenage years and only in 2001 I bought a PC and a magacine with a Suse Linux CD in it which I installed on that PC. But I couldn’t get the 56k modem to work with it because some drivers were missing. So I had to switch for a year to Windows 2000 (or 98, I don’t remember). But then I had a girlfriend who had a PC which was connected to the internet via ADSL, so I could do the research on that her computer while installing Debian on my computer from a 3.5 inch floppy disk (I found a network installer which fit on the disk). So I only had to use Windows for about a year.

There was another exception where I had a MacBook from 2008 to 2012 but other than that I’ve been on Linux for most of my life. Oh and I use Arch btw.

  • Paying out money to people who send in bug reports is probably the main problem because it incentivizes them to use AI and send in as many as possible throwing everything against the wall and hoping that something sticks and they get a payout. While this was a good method before AI, now with AI being able to produce reasonable sounding text he needs to stop the money transfer, otherwise they will drown in reports and this number of 5% will get way lower.

  • I think your expectations are wrong. Perhaps at 8 you still might tolerate your mom hovering around but at 12? It’s part of puberty to grow apart from your parents, it’s just biology. You can be glad he is comfortable even bringing his friends to your home so you can meet them and talk to them at least a little bit.

The only a bit weird thing is that they get the whole house/apartment and you’re confined to your room. I’m not sure about your living situation but it should be the other way around, they should be in his room.
