I recently loaded T2-Linux Mint Cinnamon onto a 2017 Macbook Pro and honestly it’s a really rad distro. I’d never used it before, but now I think I may give it to my dad to replace is shitty windows install that always gives him grief.
“Kinect is going to be the future of gaming!” Except this is the only generation that is going to natively support it. But hey, Apple will shrink it down, put it in a phone, and use it to authenticate you. That’s not nearly as fun as using it for dancing and rafting though.
photoprism is good. i ran it for a few years before running both immich and photoprism side by side, and eventually shut down photoprism and moved entirely over to immich. i’d never give anybody flak for using photoprism, but for people starting from scratch i’d strongly recommend immich.

Not really. I actually got rid of my Amazon Fire Stick because it didn’t work offline, but Plex did. I discovered this because my TV automatically showed the Plex shares as browsable media sources, which were being broadcast over DLNA.
The article mentions that the build cache and the runtime cache were different in the past, but now are the same. I wonder if they are talking about the buildx cache, which is not the same as the build cache.
I recently watched It Happened One Night for the first time. It is a great movie, even at 92 years old.
While this is correct, sometimes it can be free. I live in a cold climate, and over the winter I hooked up a folding@home computer in my office to keep things a bit warmer. Computers are 100% as efficient as a space heater.
Of course now that it’s getting warm things are changing. I’m actually in the middle of doing my last folding@home tasks until the temps drop next fall.

I hear you, but how often have you had to swap out a cable compared to how often have you had to deal with a rats nest? This isn’t a whole lot different than zip tying groups of cables together.
IMHO this would be even better with 6 different colors per braid. Then you could trace a cable in a few seconds while also not having a rats nest.

You should take notes about how you set up each app. I have a directory for each self hosted app, and I include a README.md that includes stuff like links to repos and tutorials, lists of nuances of the setup, itemized lists of things that I’d like to do with it in the future, and any shortcomings it has for my purposes. Of course I also include build scripts so I can just “make bounce” and the software starts up without me having to remember all the app-specific commands and configs.
If a tutorial gets you 95% of the way, and you manage to get the other 5% on your own, write down that info. Future you will be thankful. If not, write a section called “up next” that details where you’re running into challenges and need to make improvements.
