I think Lemny needs to be pitched to more independent communities as a way to provide a forum to their members while being connected to the rest of the Internet. For example, game developers should make lemmy instances for their game communities so they can host a forum and not be subjected to the whims of Reddit. Non profits and guilds as well.
I was casting video files from VLC. When I switched to YouTube I was trying to use the YouTube app on the Google tv. I’m starting to think my Google tv might be fucked up somehow so maybe I need to do a factory reset, but I have 2 of them and while ones better than the other, neither is that smooth.
Yeah I’m just so sick of cast being unreliable. The main reason I’m asking here is to answer two questions. It’s getting Chromecast set up on a raspberry pi even a thing (I’m just not really informed about what it requires), and are raspberry pis powerful enough to provide a silky smooth streaming experience. It’s kinda sounding like the answer is no.
I saw that and it looks very promising. My biggest question is about being able to cast to it. I’d really like to be able to use the Chromecast standard since it’s built into so many things, and I’m not sure if it’s feasible to get it set up on an open source setup without it being unreliable or finicky, so I’m hoping to hear if anyone has gotten a smooth setup with it.
As much as I’d like full control over my device out of principle, I’m just sick and tired of something as simple as being able to stream to my TV being so choppy and unreliable.

The old code isn’t going anywhere, there are already countless backups and clones. For a fork to actually be meaningful it needs community support and maintainers otherwise it’s basically just a clone.
I think the high profit margin on digital goods is almost entirely due to the more efficient distribution of the Internet vs a supply chain, not because steam enabled it. If anyone deserves that cut because of the lower cost of distribution it’s the people that created the Internet, and thank God they were publicly funded scientists and not corporations.
Also keep in mind that the infrastructure of the Internet charges a usage fee, not a percentage of profit. If I change $5 for a game on steam vs $60, is steam really doing more work to justify a percentage fee?
Digital marketplaces use a near monopoly to extort developers into accepting these inflated cuts. I simply will never accept an inflated rate caused by a monopoly as a good thing. Without that near monopoly there is no way they could maintain a 30% cut.

Yeah I hope you’re right. There’s just not a lot of data points yet and there’s frankly not a lot to talk about in that race so far so I can only compare to last year, and I remember it being a much better race last year when ignoring Max. Don’t worry, I’m sure the conversation will have more things to talk about as the season progresses, but you can’t expect diverse conversation based on the little we’ve seen so far.

I thought the midfield was exciting last year, but other than a few reliability issues which are expected in the first race, I felt like this race was much less interesting than Bahrain last year. It’s only the first race so hopefully it gets more interesting.

Man that was boring. Barely anything happened even in the midfield. At least last year there was more action behind Max. Hopefully it’s not indicative of the rest of the year. At least F2 was exciting.
If you’re doing more complex stuff all the time then yes that’s an indication of a problem, but despite your best efforts, complex situations or screw ups do happen and it’s good to know how to fix them, especially if you’re a senior dev that needs to help the rest of the team and resolve conflicts between feature branches. The whole team can’t be perfect all the time.
Also most of the tips in the article aren’t even about branch management and more about optimizations for huge projects or introspection into the history of large projects.
What annoys me the most is that AI image generators make it so easy to make images and yet despite that they’re still too lazy to spend 2 seconds to look at the image and check if it’s crap or not. It would literally take them only a couple of minutes to tweak the prompt and regenerate some more images.
I tried out ollama. It was trivially easy to set up.
Stable diffusion is a bit more work, but any power user should be able to figure it out.
