What do you use as a torrenting client? Most popular ones give you the ability to choose a specific interface over which it will allow incoming/outgoing connections to other peers. Your ProtonVPN should have its own interface you can select from your client. That should make it much less likely for that to happen again if Proton crashes, since if Proton crashes, that network interface disconnects.

The NIC thing was more for if you were using a VPN. You can lock down your client to just use the virtual NIC your VPN client creates, so that’s always recommended when setting up your client.

What is your toreenting “signal chain”, so to say? Normally when you download things through qBittorrent, are you generally running bare? Do you use a VPN? Is your torrent client configured to use a specific NIC? If so, is that NIC active and passing traffic? There are so many variables that play into this.

Tuya was also supposedly reworking their API/integration to allow for local control, though idk if that ever happened.

Depending on the hardware, you could totally allow access to port 53 via a firewall rule. Unifi does this transparently if you configure a DNS server running on a vlan other than the one you’re connected to.

Why are you gatekeeping pirating based on the platform a person chooses to use or has access to? If they want to use that, let them use that and be happy.

Lol as bad as it is, just reading what’s output to stdout. Worst case, tailing it via a terminal. I do want/need to actually implement a proper solution at some point, but I haven’t actually pulled the trigger on beginning the hunt for a solution yet.

I don’t use the Memory app specifically, just a photos. As far as browsing my backed up gallery, Immich winds hands down between that and NextCloud. The gallery and tagging id the closest to Google photos I’ve come in a long time.

You can, but only have one app (Immich or whatever you use to back up to NC) handle uploads. Right now I am doubling up but I have enough spare space that it isn’t affecting me, so I don’t mind.

Yeah that was my point. That’s why NC is my main and Immich is my secondary.

Been backing up to NextCloud using PhotoSync on iOS and Android the last few years. I also recently implemented Immich, and although that means doubled up photo backup, it’s nice to test out and witness firsthand just how much Immich is improving with every release.

Don’t judge the project based on that. It’s genuinely a quality application once you get it up and running.

Docker, if you can run it on your hardware (either your normal system or on dedicated hardware) is a Swiss army knife that can help level up your acquisitions, and provides you with an isolated application environment if you don’t want to install the applications directly to your device. For media specifically, there is a suite of applications under the same *arr naming scheme that allows you to index, monitor for releases of, and acquire different television shows, movies, music, and books.

Some container maintainers build in different capabilities into their torrent client containers, such as Binhex’s qBittorrent and Deluge applications, that have VPN connectivity built in, so any network traffic running through that container will automatically use your VPN provider’s WireGuard or OpenVPN capabilities, depending on who you use. Once you have that running and your tags tuned in the *arr apps, you have a headless, mostly independent machine constantly working on acquiring and upgrading your media.

Sidenote: the *arr apps can be controlled by mobile apps like LunaSea on iOS, and nzb360 on Android. The latter can also integrate with your torrent clients.

Average usage for me hovers around 180-200W. I’m running the following:

• unRAID server with a Ryzen 5 5600G proc, 3 SSD/2 HDD.
• QNAP TS-251+
• Proxmox server running an i5-4460, 2 SSD/1 HDD
• UDM Base
• Unifi 8port gig switch with 3 ports providing about 12W POE, give or take.
• ISP provided modem

Given all it does for me, I’m ok with the tradeoff.

Hey, thanks for replying! Good to know about the subscription ownership. I only ran the discovery portion of the script just to dip my toe in the water, because I feared what would happen if I subscribed. That said, if I use the discovery flag, that’s just exposing the different communities to my instance, right? It’s not going to retrieve any remote content?

Good to see that storage management is roadmapped. I probably won’t invoke the Subscribe side of this for my bot account until then.

Understandable about 2FA. I’ll just be smart about my password usage and watch for any updates on that.
