But to be real, I hate how automatic updates just assumes the newer version will be better than the current. Enshittification is just as real in apps as in web services. And automatic updates help enable Enshittification by making that assumption. Of course, It’s more applicable to the app store or play store than to f-droid.

Because they control the FTC and any other regulatory agencies. It’s called regulatory capture. The only other way they can be held accountable is through the pay to play court system which is biased towards them because they can drag it out until the other party gives up.

How do you like it?

I kinda want to try it because you can supposedly import and export your icons / shortcuts to apps. I kinda want to be able to like save a folder of urls so that they are viewable from the launcher, but I am not sure if that will be doable. The idea is that hopefully there would be a way to take a folder of bookmarks from exported firefox and make them easily accessible and organized from the launcher.

I guess I should just try it out and see.

It’s an open source solution designed to scale to what the web was originally designed for and excels at. Documents. Specifically hyperlinked documents or webpages. You can’t reasonably expect an archival service to archive something that is by definition not static like an interactive web app.

If you logged and saved all the files the first one requested you could potentially make it work. You could manually change of the file paths in the html if you only doing a few of them. There’s only like 10 or so paths that would need to be modified. The PHP ones are likely harder to make work as php is a server side language and you don’t likely have easy access to PHP server and everything that goes with it.

Look up the Oracle cloud free tier. Combine that with an desec.io for DNS service and you are good to go.

imo there isn't enough content on Lemmy to only whitelist certain communities. I prefer to just block the extra stuff I don't want. All is fine if you take out most the low effort communities. I only have 10 or so communities blocked and it makes a noticeable difference. Much easier than subscribing to a bunch of communities for me.

Blocking some of the meme communities is a big help in that regard.

Yes, it shows the same posts, but if I am interacting via a phone without a physical keyboard it is harder to make in depth posts and include things like links to external websites than it is with a phone. Basically a phone user is in general more likely to make shorter replies and interact with memes and short form content more. I guess I am assuming that phone users have a shorter attention spans since it often seems to be the case.

It kinda makes sense that mastodon (open source twitter) would have less of a drop than lemmy if you factor in Musk’s recent twitter changes.

I can’t help but wonder if this is partly driven by the increase in using lemmy from a mobile app, which imo can tend to dumb down the content on lemmy.
