After all the OGL drama I considered going to PF2 also, but after a little research decided if I was going to take the time to learn a new system and embrace crunch, I might as well go all the way and landed on GURPS. Got rid of all my 5e stuff and haven’t looked back
I have observed since about 4 years of age that the buck stops with me. I, and I suspect the vast majority of men, have no backstop - If I have any problem that I can’t fix myself, or can’t pay money to get assistance with, I am fucked.
I think this is an important observation. Women, almost always, have some avenue of potential support, even if it’s unsavory. Men very often have nothing.
I’ve heard the claims that women generally opt for less effective methods because they’re more likely to want to leave an opportunity to back out, or try to avoid leaving a messy corpse. I have not data here, these are simply claims I’ve heard.
And a “chilver” is a female lamb
Leftist unity is tenuous at best, but they dial the animosity to 11. Every interaction I’ve had has been a leftist version of the “Die, heretic!” joke.
I am that guy that recommends GURPS, which I’m actually using right now to run a sci-fi campaign. 3d6 is a great system, there are tons of sci-fi skills baked right in, Ultra Tech is a great resource for laser guns and robots and all sorts of fun tech, and there are like half a dozen supplements full of ship stat blocks. Yeah the crunch can be a lot, if you want it to. You can also ignore most of it if you want, or slow-drip it to your players.
I think the broad nature of sci-fi means that, when it comes to systems, your choices are to either find a system that fits the exact universe you’re running, or build it piece by piece.

I read their response not as “The correct plural is brassica”, but as “Friggin’ everything is a brassica cultivar”.
If you didn’t know: cabbage, kale, broccoli, kohlrabi, brussels sprouts, collard greens and cauliflower are all selectively bred cultivars of the same species.
I highly recommend enthusiastically agreeing with anyone who says Hunter should be in jail, and congratulate them on their progressive stance on gun control.
It’s unconscionable certainly, but “weird” implies unusual or unexpected.
Yeah this is it. Trek has always had such a grandiose atmosphere, but life isn’t like that all the time. It’s refreshing to see the principles of the Federation shine through its imperfect aspects. I love second contact, I love maintenance duties and bureaucratic bullshit and all the other details that makes a fictional universe feel “lived in”.
GURPS is a 3d6 roll under, it’s nice
I can’t speak to the creation of new systems, but it certainly gave me the push to try existing alternatives.
I was explaining to an acquaintance the reasons why I was transitioning my group to GURPS from DnD, and she said she learned GURPS first and they’re the same. And I was just kinda gobsmacked that 1. she’d heard of it at all and 2. she learned it first.
Neo-Indo-European?
The issue is that modern languages are so diverse, you would wind up with a horrid, unusable patchwork.
You’re dead wrong, it’s totally reasonable.
The sad thing is that, infrastructure wise, it would be trivial to convert prisons to high volume homeless shelters. Take down the barbed wire and remove the locks on the doors, give them the same subsidies.
