Open Source@lemmy.ml•AlpineBSD announced – an AI-free FOSS OS
1·2 days agoLinux is so user friendly it will delete vital files when you tell it too and break your system. I think BSD should take it a step further. Just start to randomly do it just to fuck with people.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL this is bird glass. New York City requires it in all new buildingsEnglish
1·6 days agoDo you think they’d count that as vehicle deaths? It seems like emissions and pollution would be grouped together in their own environmental category. As it’s hard to say “This death was due to emissions from this specific thing’s emissions” rather than pollution in general.

51·7 days agoI once physically removed a still living bird from my cats clutches and set it free. I saw him get it. Birds are just fucking oblivious. Standing around pecking at the ground and not checking their surroundings.

92·12 days agoWhich is exactly why western AI companies are bankrupting themselves building data centers while China is easily keeping pace with a fraction of the resources. They’re not magic. They just do basic things like make things more efficient.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Should /c/opensource allow AI / slop-coded project posts, or remove them?
161·16 days agoI’m gonna agree with others that there need to be standards not a blanket ban. I’d leave it up to the admins/mods what those are. Because getting too granular with it wold be hard to enforce. You guys pick something you feel is reasonable and will cut down on 0 effort slop but also allows you to enforce things without digging through the minutia of every post.

2·16 days agoAs stupid as that would be Bazzite or some other immutable distro with defender is still better than windows. But I highly doubt every single immutable distro will decide to do this either. Some might, but each team is going to make their own choice. And honestly its a great litmus test to know what never to install.

Honestly I’ll probably get downvoted for this but I think AI in mods can be justifiable. Like say you were modding an old game and used AI to upscale the textures of some stuff. People already use AI upscaling as like a setting in the game itself sometimes. I’m not in favor of like “Claude make a mod that does X for Elden Ring” sorta stuff, but if it can help modders, who already release all their hard work for free anyway, not have to do tedious things? I’m all for that. And a label makes it so people can choose if they want to use AI mods or not. So I think it’s a good way to handle it. Anyone that uses AI and doesn’t label it should be banned immediately tho.
