Serious question: how do I learn to like bands like Amon Amarth?

I mostly listen to power metal. Powerwolf, Sabaton, like that.

I have never had an appreciation for… Vocal fry? Is that the right term even? When the vocals just kinda sound like growling and are mostly incomprehensible.

I hear people rave about certain bands but when I try them out and their vocals sound like angry screaming and bear noises it just turns me right off, and I’m not sure if that’s a me problem or what.

I’ve often thought that I am.

I find that I understand most of the things when I sit down and do a lesson or exercise, but the problem I have is that I don’t stick with it. The gulf between where I am and what constitutes useful programming feels insurmountable, and it drains the motivation right out of me until I wander off and forget all about it.

… Sabotaging peace talks that extended the Vietnam War by years. (This was literally treason and he knew it.) He did this to help Nixon win election.

… Carpet-bombing Cambodia (who weren’t even involved) which gave rise to the Khmer Rouge (who killed a fucking lot of people).

… Using the Kurds as part of a proxy war and throwing them under the bus the instant he didn’t need them any more (leaving them vulnerable to another genocide).

… Fucking Watergate. As in, he was in that shit deeper than Nixon himself and got off basically clean.

… Training and equipping the Mujahideen (as part of yet another proxy war with Russia) back when we liked Afghanistan (because they hated Russia too). They later became the Taliban. Lots of people say Bush did 9/11, and, while he isn’t blameless, in a very real way Nixon and Kissinger did 9/11.

… Botching a kidnapping attempt (that was itself an attempt to prevent a progressive candidate from being elected in Chile) which ended up getting a famous general assassinated instead.

That’s just what I remember off the top of my head.

I find in practice that I prefer d20hero/mutants and masterminds over GURPS. It has all the same flexibility but WILDLY less math.

I love Old WoD games. Vampire less so, but Werewolf, Mage, and Demon: the Fallen are among favorites ever.

Mage: the Ascension. It’s the only system I’ve ever played where I really felt like I knew MAGIC, rather than just a handful of pre-scripted tricks.

I forgot he even directed that one. I was more thinking of Frame of Mind.

So, what I’m hearing is, we’re in for some really awesome / utterly mindfuck episodes.

It’s a two-thousand-year-long multilingual game of Telephone. How much is it even possible is left from what was originally written? (And none of it contemporary to when it supposedly happened.)

If I could choose anything for a starter, I would want a Zorua. They’re just… so cute. And they can pose as humans for extra shenanigans.

The rest of my team… Steenee and Kirlia are smol and adorable. Steenee photosynthesize, but something tells me Kirlia have that “tiny girl who eats like a Dragonball character” thing going on. Might be expensive. Not sure. Still cute.

If I were to pick one to be my mount/travel companion, it would be a Skarmory. I mean, who wouldn’t want a chrome chocobo? Now I’m probably pushing the limits of what I could afford to feed, though.

Sprigatito, because holy crap are they cute. And I have four cats already so I know feeding them isn’t a problem. (Weed Cat is the reason I broke my lifelong pattern of always choosing Fire-type starters.)
