Omg, I pay 30€ for 1Gb/0.7Gb (ten more for symmetrical 10Gb, I don’t need it and can’t even use more than 1Gb/s but my inner nerd wants it) and 0.15€/KWh.
BTW the electricity cost is somewhat or totally negated when you heat your apartment/house depending on your heating system. For me in the winter I totally write it off.
Matrox Millenium gang!
Crazy resolutions for your CRT was possible, but not textured 3D :-/
“just show an image of a disney movie on screen and you’re okay”
It’s baffling it’s legal to be honest.
I’m curious, what do you or anorher “classic”(?) home user do that needs more than like an old intel 6500 with say 32GB RAM and some 1 TB SSD (hoarding etc goes to the NAS right?) of storage?
I know dockers consume, or so I have heard, but even a webserver, streaming etc is that really eating up the (pcie)bandwith?
I’m just a low end tinkerer who likes to buy over specced stuff so I wonder what’s you all doing with yours I guess!
Well thei it is probably almost always good to clear things up :-) !
Well it actually depends.
Does it make the code more readable? Like you have several if statements using the same things (and/or else if)? Yeah then it’s probably good.
If you have an if (work.lengt() == 0 && stacked_work.length() == 0) and that’s it, probably not. Depending of whats happining then of course.
Be creative guys! But also dont be too creative :-) Think about the poor coder doing something with all that in a year or two, let’s make his life less miserable (It’s probably you, too).
What are you guys even doing with your images?
I use png or jpg depending on what I want and that’s about it.
Some of us are old enough to remember the browser wars and EEE, so I definitely understands not wanting to be sucked into some mega corps eco system with future lock-ins. Often you can’t do anyhhing else, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck.
Yeah sure, it’s not the same.
ThinkCentre Tiny machine
Or dell optiplex for a bargain.
Got myself a Dell 8gen 8GB 256GB SSD for 40€… Got a 6 core (8500?, It came with a “Pentium Gold” bi core) for 60€ and a 4TB HD for 70€… For example. I think it will handle a lot before needing an upgrade. It’s a smallish tower though, but sff versions exist too.
It’s as crazy how cheap those PCs are and how expensive Raspberries has become :-/
The fediverse is a bit confusing too IMO, and it will be changing too I bet which will make it even more confusing.
Is there any place tech enthusiasts, early adopters, Linux people hang around? I mean today it seems like here is the answer :-)
Maybe this isn’t the place but I’m shooting my shot:
I got a serious question to ask&discuss but I haven’t found a good place (it’s about a new type of decentralised tech)
I read it as “everyone fits in (one of) those 3 categories” and I thought yeah almost!
That was true when every studio had their inhouse engine, optimized for their game types.
Today we have 100.000 times more power and “everyone” goes with a prebuilt engine so I don’t think your point is valud, any more at least.
