I’m 41 now, so I was around for all that stuff. I must admit, I love those old ’90s and early ’00s games like Duke Nukem. I was also going through puberty at the time, so there’s that nostalgic factor.
I don’t think those days are ever coming back, and I’m okay with that. I enjoyed those games at the time, but I can now see how others may have found them offensive—something I never really considered back then. Many of those ads and games were a product of their time, reflecting the MTV era, which, as we know, eventually gave way to reality TV, for better or worse.
These days, it seems like we’ve evolved in some ways but regressed in others, with thousands of porn games on Steam, which is definitely not my thing. I appreciate that the industry has matured and is now more inclusive and diverse. While there’s still room for improvement, I’m glad to see that gaming can offer more sophisticated and varied content that appeals to a broader audience.
Maybe not but it’s certainly more entertaining. This ad doesn’t make me want a PlayStation, it makes me want to go out and party
That’s why I responded to you and not her 😅
There’s nothing wrong with sex appeal. Removing sex appeal, drugs, whatever else is how you get boring corpo bullshit ads instead of edgy corpo bullshit ads.
Fantastic list and love that you put Z on there. Gotta add some classics like Wolfenstein, Doom, Descent, Quake 1, Mechwarrior Mercenaries, Kings Quest… damn guess you could go on and on…
I used to hate achievements when they first came out back in the day and just thought they were dumb as hell. Surprisingly, as I’ve gotten older, I appreciate them as something to do for fun.
Paradox games especially like CK3 make me play completely different each time to unlock a different achievement.
The ones I despise are achievements that have a multiplayer requirement tied to it.
Great now I have to spend my whole life reinstalling it
That’s where some of my cousins live so that would be sweet, for my family at least!
Thanks for the lengthy explanation, sounds interesting. Is the thumb button for ducking or jumping?
What is a hitbox controller? Is there no directional joystick? What madness is this
I’ve been thinking about picking it up. Do you need one or two HOTAS? I already have a pretty expensive racing sim so I’m not trying to go down that rabbit hole (again)
I don’t like it nearly as much as the first but it’s definitely worth a pickup. Still better than the vast majority of boomer shooters that have come out in the past 8 or so years. The remaster is well done.
What I’ve noticed is that if you comment in a bot post, other Lemmy users will start chiming in. I wouldn’t worry about the bots for now. I think they’re necessary for the time being.
Old.Reddit will be killed too. I know they said it’s not going anywhere but they have shown to be full of shit in the past.
Reddit is going to keep trying dumb methods to monetize or annoy their user base. Digg did a similar thing. The people will slowly get more and more annoyed and the content here will increase. It’s just a waiting game and federated services are the future.
I feel it would be a lot more useful as trivia if we knew how much money that was per person as well.
