In trms of the vibe that the title gives off, I guess. First category is a fairly serious-sounding, usually 1 word title, and the second category seems to be a grab-bag of silly titles and titles where the first word is “______'s”

Pokemon Unbound is a gen3 romhack with updated mechanics and pokedex up to gen 7ish. When you start, it gives you 3 different options to make the game more challenging (difficult, expert, and insane). It also gives other options, like level caps for each gym, randomized abilities, and a “scalemons” option where every fully evolved pokemon has 600 base stats. I just recently did a run with scalemons and random abilities at the expert difficulty, and it became a really fun challenge of crafting a different team to beat each gym leader. And since I wasn’t doing a nuzlocke, the cost of failure and trying again was very low. Lots of side missions and postgame content too.
This game has somewhat spoiled me, in that I wish every other romhack I play had some of the things Unbound has
I was going to calculate this for you but hey actually do this on the wiki page for eggs: “The expected value of the number of chicks an egg produces is 35⁄256 or 13.7%. This means that on average, a chick is spawned every 7.3 eggs, a stack of 16 eggs spawns 2.188 chicks, and a full inventory including the hotbar and off-hand (37 * 16 = 592 eggs) is expected to spawn approximately 81 chicks.” Egg

0·2 years agoIt definitely wouldn’t be the left image. With legs like those, you could never pull the pants up past the first (or I guess technically last) level of branching. It would either be the big pants or a large number of seperate, smaller pants on each of the lowest branches.
To be fair, that’s just the culture that’s come up around the game. You have to plan how you play if you want to “win” in the first 2 years, but the only thing you get is a few candles lit in your backyard, and you can still “win” in later years if you play more slowly. You absolutely can just plant some stuff around a sprinkler, sleep until they are grown, and do everything you want to do without being at all efficient with it

Quark's@startrek.website•In honor of the late William Anders, here's a really great video on the "Earthrise" photo and how improbable it is that we have it at allEnglish
45·2 years agoBasically they weren’t originally planning on taking a photo of earth from the moon. The fact that they even had a camera was due to interest from a few astronauts in the earlier missions. The camera had its viewfinder stripped to save weight, so the astronauts couldnt see what they were filming. On that mission they were only planning to take photos of the moon’s surface. And then they decided in the moment as the earthrise happened, that it needed to be photographed, and out of tons of shots they only got one clear image.
Maybe a little clickbaity but “It’s highly imporbable that they got this shot” doesn’t ring the same

Technology@beehaw.org•The level of engagement on Reddit these days
32·2 years agoNever thought of it that way! What a dystopian world we live in where intelligent conversation dies because there’s no good way to profit off of it.
Hey, shoutout to Lemmy for letting you edit titles, I would have learned the wrong thing and scrolled on if this had been on reddit

6·3 years agoI loved all 3 games as a kid, and I think it did a lot of things right for a game of that era. I think it’s at least surprising that it never had a remake or a more modern iteration, considering other remakes like ratchet & clank, rayman, etc.

3·3 years ago+1 for this. Keeps all of my characters nice and tidy. Whenever you level up, you pick your new abilities from a list of options, and then it'll autofill that into your character sheet. It won't autofill your spells, though, so I use a different app for that. The only downside is that some of the abilities for certain classes aren't named correctly, I assume due to copyright issues. But the names are pretty clear what they're referencing (example: Agonizing Blast = Potent Cantrip).

Technology@beehaw.org•"What do we do now?" - LMG's response to the recent controversies
47·3 years agoProbably not from Gamers Nexus’ side of things. Their video is very professional, and focuses on the damage done to other companies featured on the channel, and challenges LTT and LMG to be more professional. They also said in their followup that they won’t be making any more videos on the topic, their goal was to raise awareness, and now it’s LTT’s responsibility to decide what to change, if anything. Is LTT playing it up as drama? Maybe, but I think it’s more likely that they want it treated as drama rather than legitimate criticism so that they can ignore it and move on, rather than to increase attention/ relevance.

Gaming@beehaw.org•Pathfinder: should I start with Kingmaker or Wrath of the Righteous? Or it doesn't matter?
7·3 years agoI haven’t finished either game, but i agree with everyone else in that Wrath is a much better game in terms of balance and options, and there’s no story overlap that you’d be missing if you started with wrath. If you get kingmaker on sale, the first arc is a decent story in itself and is actually the inspiration for my next campaign, so there’s definitely some enjoyable content in there

Maybe not the actual biggest, but the loss of pirated material that i feel the most sad about is The Trove. The Trove was a website with a huge list of downloadable PDFs of source books for tabletop RPGs. I got the pdfs for everything DND, and also tried a bunch of other games I’d never heard of with a few friends. It also had downloads for other books and documents but I only used it for RPGs. I think it went down in 2019 or so.
