TL;DR:
When you share a link on Mastodon, a link preview is generated for it, right?
With Mastodon being a federated platform (a part of the Fediverse), the request to generate a link preview is not generated by just one Mastodon instance. There are many instances connected to it who also initiate requests for the content almost immediately.
And, this “fediverse effect” increases the load on the website’s server in a big way.
Does Lemmy not cause this issue? Other federated software was not mentioned in the article at all.
Thanks!
It lost 15 posts on 2024-02-12 (Stamets?).
What does this mean? You are assuming that a particular user deleted their account, taking all their posts with them?
I was hoping for more than just that, but any data you have on !chevron7@lemmy.world would be appreciated!
My favorite new feature here is vertically swiping the spacebar for vertical cursor movement. Not as good as iOS’s spacebar cursor implementation, but a welcome improvement over that of any other Android keyboard I have tried.
What is arguably even more egregious is having X/Y backwards. On a graph, X is the horizontal axis, Y is the vertical axis. Xbox got it right.
Could also take this list I wrote up as another starting point: https://zerobin.org/?1825c2ba83dbd8c3#3Wu82vn6djGuuvR8AVkGUp29DHUZNq5iuVwxpnA4kAAY
It is just open source tools, but is up to date as of last week.
Looks fine on Thunder. Just had to zoom in a bunch.
Generally, yeah. I didn’t check each of these tools thoroughly, but each one has the code itself available to look through and (at least the ones included in the list) are under an open source license. Do you have a concern?
Perhaps my edit has not federated to you. Here you go:

I edited it in. I had to paste it into some other site that can take >10k characters because Lemmy comments cannot
Seems comments are limited to only 10k characters, but the post itself should allow 50k:

Could also include a link to the official Lemmy community for each of these projects
Why would you assume that a game would not require Play Services? I have experienced that issue many times, including with Stardew Valley.
> receiving regular updates
> Eternity
Two different things.
So a six vote difference? I am sure there were at least six people like me who could not vote down because our instance blocks it.
The developers today announced it will be on the Nintendo Switch, Epic Store and a DRM-free version direct from their own website on May 23rd. Their website will be the only place to get the Linux version.
Alright, I’m back in.
THANK YOU SMELLY NERD
I have definitely installed a handful of APKs over the years that did not work for me because they required Play Services, but that is far from being most of the APKs I’ve tried.
