That’s super interesting to me. I’m pretty much the opposite. I tried civ 6 on the deck but it failed to trigger me going into hyperfocus like it does on desktop

I’d say they’ve probably long reached the point where they have enough customers around the world to hold the load on their servers fairly constant. The example with one user only taking 5% of a servers load only works for low customer counts, similar to how you can’t count on one wind turbine or solar plant to provide all of your energy but if you have enough of them you can provide a base line of fairly constant energy
Steam OS, which they use for the Steam Deck is based on Arch btw, which is why
Please don’t take Clown farmers serious:
On steam you can give awards to people, one of which is a clownface. If you receive a reward, you gain steam points which you can use to purchase profile customizations, emotes, steam startup movies and maybe more idk. So People started spamming ridiculous shit on steam to be a clown and receive those clown emotes by people taking them serious. The best move is to report them, block them and move on. They also quite often pretend to be marginalized groups to as a “bonus” make those groups look bad which kinda brings despair to me when I see people actually taking them serious and not realizing it’s all fake.
The worst part about it is that they usually pretend to be a queer person demanding queer representation in games in the most rude way possible and then people take this shit serious and take it out on actual queer people.
Considering Nintendo selling very old games just emulated on their switch for almost full price I’d say people want both new games and their classics. The point is you don’t have to decide which games to get. I play Baldurs Gate 3 but also Age of Wonders 1 or the early Devil May Cry games. I can actually play the whole DMC series on one device while my PS5 is collecting dust as every game costs more there than on PC and I don’t have a big library of games.
Also I’d have to pay way too much money just to be allowed to play online on servers that Sony doesn’t even run. Over the span of 5-10 years I’d have to pay probably around 400-800€ just to play online.
I’m not 100% sure anymore but my pc with an AMD GPU and CPU cost me maybe 1300€ and runs everything i want on highest settings so far. I think the biggest price point on PC is people getting duped by sites like userbenchmark to think they need an Nvidia card that’s ridiculously expensive.
If you plan to do main story only, I’d say, go for the 2nd. However the first dragons dogma has bitterblack isles which is a giant dungeon designed to focus on pretty much nonstop action and multiple dives in, each getting further down and delivering powerful gear to help you get even further. It really helps to give you post-game stuff to do and i miss it in dd2 to the point of thinking about going back to the first one just for that part of the game
But on your new pc you can still play your old games which is not a given on consoles
This might be a weird one as the game is often blamed for not having difficulty settings, but Elden Ring. While it doesn’t have a straight up setting that says easy, there’s a lot of ways to make the game easier.
I really hate how Fromsoft put the “Prepare to Die” tagline onto Dark Souls when it came to PC and seems to develop into more bullshitty scenarios that kill you in unpredictable ways. Elden Ring has for example a lot of enemies that hold their attack for unintuitively long just to catch you off guard and punish you when you roll on the intuitive timing.
The community is to blame as well for the bad reputation of the games with people making fun of others using big shields and summons to beat the game. And herein lie the difficulty options of Elden Ring:
You can also summon other players but i don’t know if that makes the game easier: As noted above it raised the enemies HP so everyone has to do their part to succeed but if you are a caster you can mostly sit back and blast enemies from afar while your summons tank. Using player summons also opens your world up for invasions and while the invader usually is in a 1v3 situation they also usually know what they are doing and how to deal with such situations.
If you’re still stuck at a boss, just go somewhere else and explore. The game is designed to teach you that lesson with the first actual boss but a lot of people take it as the game just being hard.
All of this is to say: it is okay to use the games integrated mechanics that make it easy. It doesn’t make you less of a gamer. Elden Ring has such a beautifully crafted world and if you’re looking very interesting lore and it’s a shame that seemingly all people talk about is the difficulty. It is actually the easiest Fromsoft title if you want it to be as it gives you a lot more and more powerful tools than the other games.
(Also if you see a chonky looking gal in black full body armour called Sieglinde, summon me. I have great heals, a big chonky sword and love helping people 😘)
Makes sense then that entire YouTube channels got big by explaining said “boring nonsense”.
Literally not, how Elden Ring multiplayer works.
You can’t invade solo host unless they specifically use an item for it
If you are coop you open yourself up for invasions and since a session has a 4 player limit you’re always either in the majority (aka ganking) or on even grounds if you decide to only summon 1 friend and let the invader live long enough for another to show up. If you invade you are pretty much always going to be in a 1v3 situation.
I don’t know if it’s a problem with my OS but i couldn’t select audio sources. The button was grayed out and set to “all system audio” so I didn’t use it as the quality of clips was worse than GPU Screen Recorder. I just want to watch stuff on the side while playing games without that audio getting recorded but i heard doing it through OBS has a bigger impact on performance.
Windows also does not have 100% compatibility. Try playing something like age of wonders 1 on current windows. I could run in out of the box on steam deck but not on my pc that at the time had windows 10. I think Windows no longer has compatibility with win 98 and lower but i might be misremembering.
I’ve looked a bit into the past of this community and there’s quite a bunch of open source projects shared here and none of them had people in the comments complaining about that. Honestly just seems like thinly veiled queer hate to me.
I’m still on the first chapter but it’s awesome. But I got stuck on 2 of the bonus puzzles and age of wonders 4 and Elden Ring both dropped dlc as well so I’m currently playing way too much Elden Ring. I have to say that the philosophising in the first chapter didn’t land with me but maybe that’s because love for me isn’t something to thoroughly analyze.
It has difficulty options but it’s if you use summons, heavy shields and similar stuff. Bosses can become really easy that way if you want to. You could also go for a solo playthrough with no shield for more difficulty.
Elden Ring is both the easiest and hardest Fromsoft game in recent times because of how many really strong things are in it for the player to use. But if you play melee only, the bosses are harder than the old games.
So your idea is that visually impaired people should just cry about not having alt text on a lot of images? How would you solve this problem of recognising what’s in an image without AI? I hate generative AI in most cases as well but I swear people hear AI and are so blind from anger that they fail to see what it actually is used for
Their link wasn’t to the paper but to the license to poison possible AIs training their models on our posts. Idk if that actually is of any use though
Only interesting game is Sims but even that is now finally getting competition
A videogame making views on YouTube is only incentive for first playthroughs as views on YouTube are usually for people’s reactions to stuff. Speedrunning really usually is a passion project.
