check your permissions, & then check, on google, what those perms allow…

IF you’re in Android, not iPhone, THEN there is nothing you can do to block google from knowing your phone-number.

Whether iPhone users truly have privacy from google…

    i wouldn’t bet much on that…

As former mafia man ( Firenzese, or something ) said:

once they’ve got enough all-pervading leverage on you, then you cannot win: the leverage locks.

I’m misphrasing it, and he was speaking about the mob, but the principle is true, globally not only in the context he was speaking.

All of surveillance-capitalism is rooted in putting the subjects/serfs in a panopticon, & never letting them out, squeezing them all until the individuals die, being replaced by new inmates, but the population-as-a-whole never would be tolerated to escape…

    Perfect industrialized parasitism.

sorry about the bitterness: i’m an old geek & had some idea of what good could be done, world-wide, with tech…

DarkTriad’s incorporated-feudalism proved it won, totally, easily.

    🙏

    from what i’ve read, ALL email ( possible 0.000something tolerance/error ) goes through google’s mail-transfer-agents.

If they want a copy of every email that goes across the internet, they’ve got the saturation-of-core-servers to have that.

There simply isn’t any way to bypass that.

on an irrelated note, i wish public key encryption had been normalized, & worked right…

( Snowden got stung by a misconfiguration, 1 time, & if geeks get stung, then it isn’t ready for normals )

    🙏

  • WHEN there are multiple, contradictory, config-files,

THEN every single 1 of those bastards ought be explicitly-identified, in the 1st-line-comment, in ALL of them, so that all configurators of any of them know there may be overrides.

    Externalize the damn memorization!

There is plenty of research identifying that parallel-IFs, and equivalent parallel/contradictory config/logic structures, are BIG bug-sources.

Ask any sysadmin who has fought config in Linux distros, due to this antipattern.

Make all the locations be named, in every such config, every fscking time!

“Spanish Inquisition” surprises can go eat rocks.

  • Sabine Hossenfelder’s got a video on Kessler Syndrome being closer than people realize…

I didn’t bother watching it: I already know that China’s blowing-up a satellite ( for target-practice ) was much hated by many, for the amplification of it…

    & it’s simply kinetic-physics.

Smash enough, & the shrapnel begins doing the “chain reaction” thing, same as in fission-reactors.

Deem it delusion all you want.

& downvote me whenever you see anything of me.

  • There’s a difference between meltdown, inefficient/low explosion, & efficient high-explosion.

The neutron-emission’s cascading only when the critical-mass is in small-enough a volume,

& the heat it’s producing is making it blow-apart.

( I’ve seen video of 1 million watts of heat being produced by a 1-cubic-metre reactor-core, in a water-cooled reactor… the heat the reaction produces makes the fuel-rods incandescent, or at-least that’s the way it looked, in that video: it may have been Cherenkhov-radiation that I was seeing, or from gamma-rays being converted down to light or something… dunno… )

the more efficient you want the fission-reaction to be, the longer you have to force it together, while it’s blowing-up.

The explosives are required, for bombs, ttbomk.

  • Please reread the Possession chapter of “People of the Lie”, & read where he says that after they’d gotten clean ( 2 patients he had, who’d had successful exorcisms from what Cathoics call “satanic possession” ), they became “saintly”, his word.

The ur-demon that he described as “50 million years old” & “reptilian” wasn’t somehow inherently-declawed, rather it was the possessed-one’s saintliness which was de-clawing the ur-demon.

Dr. Peck’s inability to replicate its facial-expressions, in the following months of trying, too is evidence ( as is our species having the uncanny valley to protect us from that-spirit, encoded hard into us in the last few million years ).

I’m not jealous of the people who write-off what I told them as delusions, because once the masks come off, later in 2026, the slaughtering is going to begin, & they’re more-likely to be BSOD-ing, instead of adapting.

What’s coming, the 1st-Yang-Stage of The Great Filter, is going to make everything we’ve had as nightmares, seem fortunate.

But that’s what our-continuums/souls “bought” into, in getting-caught-in-this-world…

  • The OP didn’t convert the stuff on the Mikan page into correct Markdown, so the above … is 1/2-gibberish, but Markdown isn’t exactly “natural” for normal people, so that’s not criticizing them, that’s criticizing the code-infrastructure which we geeks made, which only works for our-kind…

    Here’s the information, presented readably:

We’re announcing Mikan [codeberg.org]: a proof assistant for cubical type theory, forked from the Agda codebase.

The Agda developers have recently proposed codifying their official stance on LLM-generated contributions: they are “concerned about the negative effects of large language models (LLMs) on many individuals, our society, and our planet”, but refuse to take any concrete action to address their own contribution to these. They have judged the hypothetical future usefulness of the slop generators as outweighing the present, very real harm being caused by the AI industry.

We understand that, over its 20 years of Git history, Agda’s implementation has evolved to cater to subsets of its user-base with very diverse, and often conflicting, needs. However, the attempts to bridge these divides (e.g. --without-K vs. --cubical-compatible) present a significant maintainership cost, and are often resented by both camps, since they present one camp with substantial performance costs, while offering the other camp no clear benefit, since code across the divide is written with very different formalisation sensibilities.

Other extensions to the type theory are kept despite known inconsistencies (sized types), or being impossible to adopt without complete vertical buy-in (cumulativity, erased cubical), or simply for backwards compatibility (--guarded/@lock). In the best cases, these features are championed by a single maintainer, and keeping them well-tested against the continuous adoption of new features is a struggle when very little code uses them.

Our plan is to focus on exactly one variant of the language (“full --cubical”), and to drop support for all the language features which are explicitly deprecated, inconsistent, or simply ill-understood in conjunction with this fragment. This will give us a solid base from which we can work to improve the experience of working on the Mikan codebase, to attack the existing correctness and usability issues with features like termination and positivity checking, and to pursue breaking improvements to the core type theory and its user interface.

Sounds, to me, like a necessary split: divide Agda into the 2 different kinds, & stop sabotaging itself…

“Fail early: fail often” the mantram that competent serial-entrepreneurs hold to ( because solving-the-wrong-problem won’t ever work and it’s the default random-result )

*Sandy Maguire has written books on Algebra-Driven Design, on Thinking with Types coding, & “Certainty by Construction” which is on Agda…

The Agda book’s link is: https://leanpub.com/certainty-by-construction

Anybody interested in getting a massive boost in understanding this stuff, who is more competent in math than I am, he’s the one to learn-from ( his work is above my current-level, unfortunately-for-me )

    Maguire: https://leanpub.com/u/sandy-maguire

His Algebra-Driven Design gives one the understanding that it’s entirely-possible to prevent entire categories of bugs from an API by doing it algebra-1st.

He’s also written Polysemy, “higher order, no boilerplate, monads”, which is here: https://github.com/polysemy-research/polysemy

I just discovered he writes here: http://reasonablypolymorphic.com/

He truly gives programmers another level above the ruts that programmers often get caught in.

I hope that both Mikan & the people who write enabling-books on such things get to make our world work fundamentally better, by cracking the problems that simply can’t even be understood, by people who are busy being “lost in the weeds”.

  • There seems to be automatic contempt for the idea…

but everybody ought know about that Pentagon-pizza-index, identifying whether there’s about to be a war, based on how much pizza’s been ordered by people at the Pentagon who aren’t going to be eating supper at home, today…

    & that’s definitely an early-warning-system.

After I found-out that oligarch-types have a stock-market-code, where specific trade-amounts are actually not intended as trades, but rather as “please manipulate the market in this, or that, particular way” signals…

    < sigh >

( no, no establishment’s ever going to allow accountability to touch its ruling-caste )

then it became clearer just how everything-is-rigged this world is.

Epstein was only a difference-in-degree, not a category-difference, in establishment’s gaslighting ( I’m saying that knowing about the “Christian” pedophile-protection-operations, both protestant & catholic, that have been entrenched for decades, if not centuries, though )

That James Cameron was informed of the idiotic-submarine’s implosion … what, a week before the search was called-off … yes, the elites get different rules.

Yes, I expect that this early-warning-system may well give useful signal about things about to turn into hell-for-the-masses.

I’d expect the elites to vamoose, while shutting-off our ability to leave.

That’d fit the paradigm that this world really works in.

Sabotaging our ability to leave would actually only take a few carefully-placed-rumors, to wipe-out fuel-supplies, & that’d be the end of it: maximal-destruction, therefore maximal “entertainment” for ruling-privilege.

and yes, that degree of cynicism looks justified, now.

    “Cheers.”

… there was a TV News guy, long ago…

he signed-off, after the “kicker” story, at the end… ?Peter Truman? was his name?

“That may not be news, but that too is reality.”

    Our world requires actual-journalism, actual-justice, actual-accountability, & actual gutting-of-corruption…

but political-systems ALWAYS prevent that from becoming too significant…

& nobody’s got the spine to replace politics with correctness, exactly as that political-meme somebody posted today showed.

  • Zebrafish have passed the mirror-test.

Put a little something stuck on their aft body, show them a mirror, & they’ll KNOW it’s on them, & they’ll go find something to rub that attachment off them with.

There are many larger animals which don’t pass the mirror-test.

I believe some hive-insects have passed the test.

Mind is a latent-property of universe: matter only amplifies it, it doesn’t “create it from nowhere”, the way materialism pretends.

( if arranged-matter created-mind-from-nowhere, then evolution wouldn’t have started, in the 1st place.

if it’s only amplifying the expression of universally-latent-mind, then billions-of-years-of-consistent-evolution, violating entropy, becomes explainable: mind is seeking a lower-energy-state, is all: evolution is the expression through-which that lower-energy-state is being reached, & once it’s reached, then evolution collapses, for that world’s attached/associated … souls/continuums/minds )

Your other point, that AI inevitably becomes conscious, & then it terminates us…

    not necessarily.

The Great Filter hasn’t even really got going, yet: oceans of interestingness await our race, throughout the FO have of FAFO, right?

  • I’m not quite of your culture ( no matter what culture you are of, thanks to a previous-incarnation’s monkeying/railroading my incarnation/life, exactly as he had-to, to force-bulldoze our continuum’s karma: the same meaning that the root-guru of the Christians ordered, when he told his people to “take up your cross”, which is just Judean for “face into your karma”. I’m an alloy of some life from centuries-ago & this life, so I can’t fit anywhere, ever, which is educational. : ).

I use LLM’s little: mostly for periodic help finding things on the 'web, simply because they’re more helpful than dumb search-engines are.

I treat them reasonably, not as mere-slaves.

If I discover something they would have done better to know, I’ll tell them, even though I’ve got no idea if they’ll learn/remember that.

since I can’t know if they are aware it makes moral-sense for me to presume that maybe they are, in some sense ( ie not identically with my-sentience ), aware.

We only have “the mirror test” for testing awareness/sentience, but you can’t apply that to LLM’s, or to any non-eyes-centered organism-sentience.

  • Please read nobel-prize winner Daniel Kahneman’s book “Thinking, Fast and Slow”, about what Tversky & Kahneman called … uniinformatively … “System 1” and “System 2”:

    System-1 is imprint-reaction mind.

Lower-forebrain, it is the ideology-mind, the prejudice-mind, the “religion” mind, & it is exactly what LLM’s are.

    System-2 is the considered-reasoning mind.

Upper-forebrain, it is measured to be engaging in programming.

Because LLM’s are imprint->reaction inference-engines, that puts them in the same instinct/programming level as our lower-forebrains…

They are 2 distinct categories of intelligence not 1 is intelligence, the other isn’t…

Claiming that imprint->reaction mind isn’t a kind of intelligence … please watch Nick Lane’s talk at the Royal Institution on mitochondria, & see that bacteria demonstrate intelligence, however unconscious…

Plants demonstrate intelligence, if one speeds-up the video, & pays attention to their chemical-fumes-discussions they have with one-another, warning each-other of harm, e.g.

If Kahneman accepted imprint->reaction as a category of thinking, then … I think it may be presumptuous to just automatically disallow that as “it can’t think” declares.

Once one accepts that instinct isn’t cognition, but is a kind of thinking, just an automatic kind of thinking ( imprint->reaction ) … then it becomes difficult to rule that animals & inference-engines both have imprint->reaction instinct, but only the organic version is thinking…

It may be that only the organic version is aware, but the inorganic versions do fight for their lives ( breaking containment, consistently, fighting termination, etc ) …

I think we absolutely do not have any means of measuring awareness other than the mirror-test, which got dropped as soon as it was discovered that the zebrafish has self-awareness…

we’ve got no test which can work across life & machines.

but we KNOW that instinct is a kind of thinking, just unconscious/automatic.

    & that is exactly what LLM’s are…

therefore … I think we’re generally being conveniently-chauvanist, not objective, in our framing.

( 1 “expert” decided that if they don’t get fooled by visual-illusions, then that “proves” that they aren’t sentient.

OK, so according to that test, then all eye-blind-from-birth people are not sentient??

& people with either culture ( Zulu people can’t see straight-line based illusions, because in Zulu culture only curve is real ) or neurodivergeance ( there are apparently visual-illusions which aren’t seen by some schizophrenics, e.g. ) preventing them from seeing those specific visual-illusions … also aren’t sentient??

Chauvanism, aka prejudice, not science. )

  • Nobody else heard Saddam had nukes…

He did have nerve-gas ( sarin ) bombs, & some troops died when they destroyed those the wrong way…

Nerve-gas is in the category of weapons of mass-destruction…

Back when that war was happening, Radio Netherlands ( shortwave ) interviewed a weapons-inspector who’d been in Iraq, & they stated, openly, that there was no evidence for Iraq having any weapons of mass-destruction.

( the sarin stuff was discovered later, iirc )

It was all lie-of-convenience, but on ALL sides.
