We’ve lost some big ones this year alone, hadn’t we? I recall the early half of the year, that we lost some huge names or names that just shut down. Uloz flipped, still around but not what it once was. There was a lot of big names just gone all in this year alone.

But I see all of this as multi-pronged.

Aside from what everyone else has said. I will add that there could be people slipping into pirate ranks as a shill for these corps, gathering all that they can, slipping out to report.

There also could be loud-mouthed pirates, ruining it for everyone because they’re loud-mouths, gotta spread the shit all the way around. That gets the attention of the corps that just hover over and count the days at that point.

So say that piracy is exterminated in a theoretical scenario, subscription prices now cost $20 - $25 per service just for standard. Tickets cost $19 per person. Rentals will cost $7. Copies still sold in retail stores and online hover $20 ~ $30.

Now, piracy is gone, we have all of these increased expenses. Who do they honestly expect are going to still want to be paying that much?

People will see all along that this is just simply an optional luxury to have, they can’t have it, they stop paying and take their money somewhere else.

And does anyone think the executives and MAFIAA will finally admit that they’ve been in the wrong all this time?

I was planning to finish a series on AnimeSuge and AnimeSuge is now gone. I’m not going to fucking subscribe to Crunchyroll because, they don’t have anime classics like Tenchi Universe or Tenchi in Tokyo. AnimeSuge did. They had everything Tenchi in one place whereas you have to subscribe to both Funimation and Cruncyroll to even get a third of the series available.

And watching the original 1997 Berserk series straight through was on AnimeSuge. None of the legal options fucking have it and everyone is selling the series on EBay and Amazon for triple the price.

This is fucking bullshit!

This makes about as much sense as when Facebook tried prioritizing Oculus to be a way to browse the internet.

But whatever I guess, some ideas have to be realized first before it reaches “well that was a dumb fuck of an idea” phase.

There’s nothing wrong either with pumping the brakes of a subscription, which I’m seeing and hearing people do now including myself. I just need a good reason to subscribe to say like, Netflix, to get me to watch what I want to watch or catch up on then decide to unsubscribe.

I sincerely hope they don’t penalize people in the future for doing this, but I expect at somepoint that they will so mind as well enjoy that while we’re able.

Everyone should sit down and ask themselves - ‘Do I Really Need This?’

I can only speak on my behalf. I have over, roughly estimating, 1,500 games both purchased and pirated. Do I really need a subscription such as GamePass right now when I have so much already? No, I really don’t.

I’ve pirated thousands of songs over the years, do I really need Spotify’s subscription? No, I do not and I’m glad that I don’t.

So on and so forth. I decide what I need or want based on the current lifestyle and quality of life in my current state. I do not need over 40 subscriptions sapping me every month and it’s only gotten easier because I combat FOMO, I evaluate what else is out there that serves as an alternative that isn’t subscription based.

These days when I look at people paying a subscription model for Microsoft Office, I shake my head and have that kind of chuckle that makes you feel sorry over someone doing that. Because really, I still use older versions of Microsoft Office and LibreOffice to handle whatever modern features that there is to handle. Not a lot has really changed to warrant subscribing to such a model.

A lot of subscription models can be pressy to people who aren’t knowledgeable unless they take advantage of what’s out there.

I feel this with Terraria. Yeah the updates are free and they try many ways to freshen the game up. But, I’m almost begging for the game to land itself in a comfortable level of finishing itself and just polish it off. It is a radically different game when I try it than when I first did back in 2015.

I can see why even Reddit wouldn’t want this posted over there.

So, okay, you’ve made up a scenario but it has nothing to do with the question you’re asking. Why couldn’t you have just asked the question and not beat around the bush before doing so?

I was a frequent Kbin.social user and I miss it. But also, you have to move on when the end is reached for the foreseeable future. One of the strengths of the Fediverse, is that you can make an account on something like MBin and still interact with Lemmy instances as if you were registered on Lemmy. Anything that makes me use one account and supports cross-platform is a major plus in my book.

Oh and uh maybe some of those running Lemmy, i.e mods, are kind of scummy so I don’t want to be at their mercy if I was just registered to Lemmy.

Oh right, that. The money laundering.

Here’s an example of how scummy the department of justice in the united states was when it comes to handling copyright cases and bowing to the luxurious cocks of the media industry. They brandished the money laundering and racketeering excuse to cover up the fact that it was all about the claims of copyright infringement that got them to sick the SWAT teams on Dotcom.

People on the outside of this story, had no clue what was going on. But every pirate knew exactly what this was all about.

I remember following this story for like a few years before I trailed off. This is absolutely fucking ridiculous. This was all orchestrated by the MAFIAA in an attempt to again make an example out of someone, because it wasn’t too long after or so, that they managed to penalize and jail some of the original Pirate Bay founders. All of which were long not involved with the Pirate Bay but just because they’ve been associated with such a symbol that has continually and still continues to trounce the efforts of the copyright regime, had to go and make examples of them.

So here we are now with Dotcom and it feels exactly the same here. Gotta make an example of them because of the years long process of the butt-hurt executives in the copyright regime, crying crocodile tears about superfluous lost “millions” that they still to this day continue to keep vague, just to gain some clout.

For the longest time, I’ve relied on DDL sites, blogspot sites with lots of links and Uloz. Since many of them have become rather tedious to use or just outright suck, I now use MP3Caprice. Yeah I know, some money is involved so you’re paying people to pirate for you. But on the flipside, everything is relatively dirt cheap (except soundtracks and compilations, they like those enough to charge more).

Catching any pirate comes down to just how gullible and not savvy they are when it comes to pirating. All of these people asking what the best VPN to use is, asking so many questions are probably the kind of people most likely to get caught at the end.

I disagree. The Reddit community at large is a bunch of spiteful shitposters who’ll spin anything and everything you put infront of them. They’ve done this for years.

It is the worst place for anyone with mental instability issues to frequent or seek advice in. Mainly because as we all know, Spez doesn’t give a shit about anyone’s privacy so anyone can just comb through your profile and stockpile ammo from you. Things you wouldn’t tell anyone else - now it’s in their hands. Information you thought was “safe” - now they know.

There are other places out there that are more knowledgable and credible than Reddit pretends to be. Plus, they care about privacy. Like there’s a suicide forum out there that will not let anyone outside, who hasn’t registered anyways, to view the contents of the forum. Does Reddit do that? No, not even if you’re a subscriber!

I don’t see a lot of dietitians, therapists, nutritionists, psychologists .etc spending all of their hard work to get the credentials to be where they want to be, just so they can offer sound and legitimate advice on a platform that doesn’t give a single shit.

Don’t underestimate Reddit coomers. They gots to coom and they’ll pay to coom.
