Until any competing store releases a Linux client, I can’t really argue against Steam. They are a gatekeeper and almost a monopoly, but they’re also the most benevolent and pro-consumer gatekeeper that we have in the PC gaming distribution space. As long as all the competition continue to be Windows-only and, in some cases, actively work against Linux users, I don’t want Valve’s digital fiefdom to fall.
I’ve been experimenting with both of these and recently wrote up a guide for installing FEX on postmarketOS (as I am testing it on my phone and tablet) but the steps should work for Pi as well.

I also just made a video tutorial/demo on YouTube. I ran Half Life 2 and Tomb Raider (2013). I’m not sure how capable the Pi 4 GPU is in comparison to the Adreno GPUs I tested.
Box86/64 and FEX can both run Steam on ARM. Lighter games should be playable on RPi4 and 5.
Except the one platform that actually matters, Linux. My girlfriend got me into this game and it’s the only game I have to keep a Windows installation around for. It doesn’t run on the Steam Deck, so it’s the only multiplayer game I play where I would even contemplate having to play it on Switch. I hate Epic Games.
Too bad they added shitty anticheat that broke GTA Online. I can’t trust Rockstar anymore and I won’t be buying these. RDR on PC was something I really wanted, but not after Rockstar betrayed us by basically revoking our access to GTA Online after almost a decade.
I’ve been pretty happy overall with my Arc A770. For the price, it performs well, and driver issues are mostly a thing of the past. My only complaint is that the anv Mesa driver doesn’t implement VK_NV_device_generated_commands which appears to be a requirement for some D3D12 games on Linux (Starfield being the one I had issues with). Luckily, it looks like there is a new non-NVIDIA specific extension to solve that and an open MR in the Mesa GitLab to add it to anv.
I recently printed the Fractal Design North Pi case which turned out quite nicely.
This was my early high school days. My friend and I would play Mario 64 DS wirelessly across the hall because we were in different classes but close enough for a WiFi connection. Great times. Also, the Metroid demo included with the console was a fun multiplayer experience.
I got ab RG35XX Plus when it came out. Very nice little Game Boy style handheld. I played a bunch of GBA, GB, and Genesis games on it but it’s capable of a lot more.
Are you testing this on a Raspberry Pi? The PAN_ prefix seems to indicate this is a configuration for the Panfrost driver (which is the open source driver for ARM Mali GPUs) and the Raspberry Pi does not use an ARM Mali but rather a Broadcom VideoCore GPU, so I don’t see how this would affect the Raspberry Pi.
I don’t disagree, but today the blame lies with CrowdStrike, not Windows. As much as I hate defending Windows.
The only mistake Billy made is giving anything to AdBlock Plus, the people who have sided WITH the ads, instead of uBlock Origin, the true MVPs of the ad blocking world. I guess uBlock doesn’t accept donations unfortunately, but still, ABP is shady and I would not support them.
I just donate by whatever means the project offers. Sometimes it’s paypal, sometimes patreon, sometimes GitHub sponsorship, sometimes something else like OpenCollective. Read the readme or homepage of the project to see what options they take.
I don’t want to move my project to a group, which is the only way to use those minutes. It used to be that any public project with a FOSS license got access to the FOSS minutes but now only the ones they approve do, and as I said, there are restrictions like having to have the project under a group. At least gitlab-runner is self hostable, but it’s a depressing mess compared to what it used to be.
GitLab has gone downhill over the past several years to the point I cannot recommend it anymore. Requiring a credit card is a kick to the face of younger devs wanting to get their feet wet in open source. The CI minutes that free accounts and FOSS projects get is insultingly pathetic. Their open source program that you have to apply for is intentionally annoying, requiring you to manually get re-approved yearly and the benefits only work for FOSS projects under a group, not a personal account. It’s tolerable if you self-host your own runners and forget their shit excuse for a managed CI exists, but I’m also running into this super annoying issue where I get signed out of Gitlab almost daily and have to re-login and enter a verification code from my email. I have my project mirrored to Codeberg and if Codeberg had better CI I’d move completely, even if it were self hosted. Gitlab has gone way downhill since I moved to them after MS bought Github.
I would love to see gas stations putting in EV chargers, especially gas stations known for their food and snacks or travel stops that have restaurants because of the additional time taken to charge an EV vs. fill a gas car. Also it would be nice to see established companies run EV chargers that just let you pay with card at the “pump” like you do for gas rather than this app and account bullshit that all the mainstream networks have.
Hopefully this knocks down Tesla’s dominance in the charger ecosystem honestly, we need competition to take over that aren’t tied to a single vehicle manufacturer. Yes Tesla was going to open their network up to third party cars but they’re taking their sweet time in doing so. I hope competitors were able to swoop in and hire talent and take over broken contracts on abandoned charging station projects.
I wish this were added to the official web UI too. I know they probably have reasons against it but just let us choose for ourselves. They can leave Hot the default but I do think the votes matter and the highest voted comments are usually worth reading.
The domestic social media companies are at the whims of the billionaire class which I would argue is just as bad for voter influence. Neither side wants you to vote in your best interest.
If Bungie is behind it I have zero interest without even knowing what it is. Destiny 2 was an OK game, but its god awful anticheat bans Linux users. That is a sure-fire way to make me pretend your game doesn’t exist. Client side anticheat is a plague. Do it properly on the server side.
