I’m feeling similarly about Sinking City 2.

The realities of game development are already fraught with risk, and that’s before you add violence to the equation. It’s pretty sad thinking of the games that won’t ever get made

Yeah, unfortunately this tip is losing relevance as the technology is being replaced.

As an aside, I remember about twenty years ago or so you could buy disposable AA/AAA batteries that had a gauge telling you how full they were. They worked by squeezing the battery, which I believe created a circuit with your hand, which was enough to power a cheap LCD strip on the battery.

It never worked very well, the batteries basically said they were more full if you squeezed them harder. Back then it was easier and quicker to give them the drop test.

The reason is that alkaline batteries work off a chemical process, and as they are used they fill with pressurized gas. The difference in pressure causes the bounciness.

I have a kind of funny story about that. I was too young to be playing RE when it came out, but that didn’t stop me from sneaking it out of my dad’s collection of grownup games to try it anyway.

So there’s this well known jump scare, probably in the first fifteen minutes as you say where you’re running down a hallway and suddenly some dogs jump through these glass windows. I screamed, fumbled the controller, and was eaten by dogs. Might have been the first jump scare of my life.

So I hadn’t hit a save point, so you have to start the game over. So I decide to just leave the mansion through the front door instead of going out that way. And you get a cutscene where a dog jumps through the door and you have to wrestle it away.

I still haven’t played the game since.

But my wife and I are a big fan of the series, so eventually we decided to marathon them on the condition that she plays RE1. She’s playing the remake and goes into the room where the dogs jump through the windows and I’m holding my breath waiting for it to happen. Only it doesn’t.

So I’m a little disappointed, but I figure it’s a remake so maybe they’re switching things up a bit and going to put the jump scare somewhere else in the mansion.

Just so you have a heads up:

If you use yt-dlp like a regular user, you shouldn’t have a problem. If you use it to download like a thousand videos at once then YouTube may block you out or rate limit you or something.

I think the best format would be a side-scrolling beat 'em up like Double Dragon. Jack and Wang tag teaming their way through back alley Chinatown, enemies starting out as thugs but getting more supernatural as they descend into Lo Pan’s nightmare.

Beat 'em ups also lend themselves to retro stlyed games, and Big Trouble in Little China is already oozing 80’s neon charm that I think they’d go very well together.

“Red tape” is a pretty common idiom here. It’s similar to bureaucracy, but it’s more like the useless stuff you have to deal with in order to do something.

Say you want to update your driver’s license and you need to bring in some ID and fill out a form. That’s regular bureaucracy.

If you want to feed the homeless so you have to get a permit for an event, prove your volunteers have food-handling training, fill out forms for your volunteers, notify the police that there will be a public gathering, schedule an inspection of the facility, etc, that’s red tape.

Another way to look at it might be that Bureaucracy describes the system in which offices communicate with each other, and Red Tape are the tasks/forms/whatever you have to complete in order to get what you want approved.

Ah, well you can definitely build for Android with it then. I haven’t personally, but so far every other platform I’ve built for has just been a few clicks and away you go

I highly recommend Godot for a new developer. I made the switch from Unity and it’s just been a pleasure to work with. I’m actually unlearned a bunch of patterns I had to use with Unity because Godot makes things even easier to access .

I don’t know if it’s got any kind of support for retro systems though
