Norris already gained an unfair advantage with that overtake and punishing both drivers still leaves Lando with that advantage. Considering how stewards have been giving out 10 second penalties Lando getting a 5 second penalty was a slap on the wrist, and it almost didn’t matter because at the end once the penalty was applied the delta between Max and Lando was less than a second. Had it happened a few laps earlier Lando could’ve outpace the penalty.
Based on the information we know, punishing both drivers in that situation sets a weird precedent where sometimes it’s acceptable to overtake off track and I don’t think anyone wants that door to be left open.
So if both get a penalty how is Lando actually penalized for passing off track? He gets a 5 second penalty, but so does Max and those two cancel out which means Lando is still ahead of Max.

I disagree. I think weirdly letting max run drivers off track is a sore that I don’t think anyone wants to be left open

yeah, I’m okay with that. had max but a acted illegally, Lando would have passed him
So if the roles were reversed, if Max had overtaken Norris that way, you’d also be okay with that?
yeah, because i’d have been massively unimpressed with Lando’s cheating.
