It used to not be the case but there really are good alternatives to Google search. I use Kagi but I hear a lot of good things about DDG as well. I can’t see anyone using Google for reasons other than ignorance or laziness/apathy.

This is deliberate so they can continue misinforming a public largely lacking in the capacity for critical thought, and reinforce that issue by making them dependent upon it. Control freaks have their super weapon to put the bulk of us on a leash, and the ignorant public will blindly eat it all up.

It is incredibly shocking watching people willingly put on the fascist leashes when told it’s to “protect the kids”

It shows you how many people (~30% maybe?) are always convinced history has ended and this is an entirely new situation where the same failed strategy born out of kneejerk emotional response is the right thing to do this time.

Frankly the AI overview, while hallucinatinatory AI-slop, is still better than the ad-infested SEO-slop in the ‘results’.

I recently was experimenting with different distros on my PC, and got tired of having to search up the various AI summary blocking search URLs each time I set up Firefox (request for FF team, let me sync search engines). Sharing them here for reference in case anyone else is interested:

    Search Engines

    Name: Kagi
URL: <Copy Session Link from a logged in window>
    Keyword: @k
    Suggestion Url: https://kagisuggest.com/api/autosuggest?q=%25s

    Name: DuckDuckGo.noai
    URL: https://noai.duckduckgo.com/?start=1&q=%25s
    Keyword: @d
    Suggestion URL: https://ac.duckduckgo.com/ac/?type=list&q=%25s

    Name: Brave
    URL: https://search.brave.com/search?summary=0&q=%25s
    Keyword: @b
    Suggestion URL: https://search.brave.com/api/suggest?q=%25s

If folks have found others please share!

LLMs are going to replace websites, with websites just being a data source for the LLM, and all the ad revenue and informational control that was previously distributed among the websites will now be concentrated in the hands of the owner of the LLM. Mark my words.
