People said the same thing about the TOS movies. And TNG. And the TNG movies. And DS9. And VOY. And ENT. And the Kelvin movies.
Someone will like it. Someone will get into Star Trek due to it. That is not a bad thing. Let the franchise grow in some capacity. If you don’t like it, fine. But stagnation is the death of creativity. If it works, it works. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. But you gain nothing but taking zero risks.

I was there for all of those things and much of the criticism was spot on.
