A new adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist is on the way from filmmaker Mike Flanagan, so reports Deadline. The new film is set up at Warner Bros. Pictures and will a new version of the 1980 King novella which has previously been adapted into feature by Frank Darabont, all of the way back in 2007. Ten years later it was retold as a TV series, and now nearly a decade on from that, it will be updated once again.
The story revolves around a strange mist that engulfs a small town where strange creatures lurk. The story was part of the Skeleton Crew collection, which also included The Monkey, which was turned into a film by Osgood Perkins quite recently.
Flanagan has previously brought new versions of King’s work to the big and small screen with the likes of Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep and Life of Chuck. He is also working on a series based on Carrie over at Prime Video.
I think the film was fantastic. IIRC, even King loved the ending which is slightly different to the original novel.

King specifically said he preferred the movie ending.
Yea but King is also really bad at writing endings yet frankly the mist is one of his best endings! It lets the reader sink into the possibility of an unending mist and its implications…
Whereas the movie had a dad just shoot his son point blank instead of waiting half a goddamn beat… hell the ending could have worked if Darabont had just shot a few more feet of film showing time passing. Instead it plays more like the lives were inconveniencing the protagonist but then he regrets homocide!
