Seeing as the community rules also permit asking for community recs… I have a dumbphone that I’ve owned for a while and I’m impressed by all the edge cases its software actually handles. I’d like to describe my findings somewhere, but I couldn’t find a fitting community. There’s no dumbphone or digital minimalism community, no?
There’s Compact Phones but they’re more about small smartphones. I don’t think they’d appreciate my post about a small phone that’s also trash when compared to a smartphone
Have you considered !simpleliving@slrpnk.net? It’s not very active but I think this is the kind of post that deserve a place there. And that maybe enough to trigger interesting discussions too.
There’s !dumbphones@lemmy.world, but it’s not a very active community. !degoogle@lemmy.ml is too restricted in scope maybe (and .ML…) but !technology@lemmy.world, even if wider in scope, may be a good place to share your experience. Wherever you share it, I’d read it with great interest!
There’s !dumbphones@lemmy.world, but it’s not a very active community.
Posting on the Fediverse via SMS, when?

This might be of interest to some of the privacy communities. If you think there’s overlap, feel free to post in one of the larger ones.
“Dumbphones” are not inherently superior from a privacy perspective if they connect to cell towers. Standard calls and SMS are wide open to eavesdropping.
No, they’re not, and I didn’t say they were. But there are a lot of people that only let a tower touch a dumbphone and keep a wifi only smartphone that is more secure, so the venn diagram does have some overlap.
There’s this one, which I don’t think is that active, which is !right_to_unplug@sopuli.xyz
