Again?
‘Open source’ misses the point of libre software.
Videos are hella compressed, dansup commented months ago saying hed update that soon increasing the limit, never did, my shit looks terrible
Good to know it’s still moving forward. I thought the project died because I’ve never really heard anything since the initial promotion of it a couple of months back.
Well, it is developed by a sole developer who also solo-develops Pixelfed. The guy spreads himself way too thin, so development moves slow.
All 7 users will be pleased.
It actually reports about 27K monthly active users and is one of the more popular platforms on the fediverse.
8 now that’s it’s foss
Every platform had 8 users at one point!
Pretty sure Google+ only made it to 7
That includes the 5 bots to drive engagement right?
There must’ve been more than 7 devs working on it right? Right?
There were 15 stakeholders, 1 full time developer and 20 overseas contracted developers with a 12 hour time zone difference from the full time dev. All designs were done in PowerPoint by one of the stakeholders. The single full time developer was only ever able to talk to the PowerPoint design stakeholder, and the other 14 stakeholders communicated through the single PowerPoint stakeholder. Now that I think about it, the 15 stakeholders may have actually just been the 1 stakeholder pretending to be multiple people.
I once had a job that worked like that lol
I want to like Loops but I kinda do not like the lack of a recommendation system (I do understand why they don’t tho). And also it needs more users to actually have content. I keep checking it every once in a while, but 90% of what I scroll through are nothing but nature shots with the other 10℅ being extreme political hot takes or just (bad) memes ripped straight from tiktok.
Everything has to start somewhere.
The “Explore” tab always has the same 12 videos. Look at it again 6 months later, same videos.
Makes sense. It was in pre-alpha.
Now that it’s in alpha, you’ll have 13.
Once it hits beta, it’ll skyrocket to an even 20.
Is it finally ACTUALLY AP enabled now? Been waiting on that.
Answered my own question, supposedly it is.
Last I heard, and this seems to be the case as of this moment as well, only a few accounts are federated for testing (as in, maybe just one?). Mine definitely is not. Of course, this could change at any moment since it’s released as alpha.
Question: can they get sued for putting TikTok-like in the description, or does that only apply when you’re making money?
IANAL, but I don’t think there’s a reasonable ground for a lawsuit (although there’s nothing prevent an attempt). It’s not claiming to be TikTok, that would be a clear trademark infringement. It’s just saying it’s similar to their service, and if you want to compare it (which is allowed), you have to refer to it somehow. Similar to when people say LibreOffice is an MS office alternative - Microsoft wouldn’t have the grounds to sue there, either.
You anal? what a weird way to start a comment.
In case you’re serious (or for anyone else who may not know), it means “I am not a lawer”
Make a PR to replace it with “Shortform”
I don’t mind “TikTok-like”. I just think it’d be a silly reason for the project to shutdown.
Looking great! I’d love to add this to my fedi-toolkit
So does this mean it’s in a state where people can start hosting their own instances and begin federating yet?
Seems like it, but nothing here yet aside from the official instance
After announcing it ~7 times.
