Those dot matrix printers were always more reliable and hassle free than any ink jet type printer I’ve ever used or owned. Didn’t have hardware locking ID chips in the ink (so you could use any universal cartridge from any maker), paper jams were rare and only ever caused by paper actually being jammed, they didn’t take 10 minutes to warm up and start working after being sent a print job…
used dot Matrix at an old job. it only ever didn’t work when the box of paper was empty. they ‘upgraded’ to laser printers, paper cost went up, ink went up, the things broke/jammed constantly and resulted in wasted man-hours to fix.
Hell… you could pick the fuckers up a couple inches and drop them as a valid troubleshooting step… you do that with today’s printer and you’ll ruin a whole fucking product line.
Picking them up and dropping them would dislodge the entire box worth of paperclips some idiot had dumped into the machine weeks before without causing any problem…
