  • I’ve never watched TOS all the way. Best I can recall is the 2009 movie in which the Vulcan kids bullied Spock and the High command “complimenting” Spock for being accepted into the academy despite his biological disadvantage. In the main timeline, I think Disco mentions it.

It’s a logical point that since vulcans don’t have the disadvantages of humanity that they are superior, from a certain point of view. When the faux vulcans said something speciest, Spock commented that it was “technically” logical. This implies even Vulcans understand Logic can be a spectrum of finesse. Infinite diversity in Infinite Combinations is a Vulcan idiom after all.

  • Honestly? This episode was a bit of a miss for me.

    Pros

    • I always like when an actor tries new accents. Sometimes it’s a swing and a miss, but I will reward risks.

    • I liked the production value of the sci fi sets

    • The Origin of canonical explanation of why the holodeck always worked whenever the power went out in Voyager.

    • What…ever…that … Shatneresque…portal of …the Cap-tain was that Kirk did.

    Cons

    • Hypotheticals never are.

    • I’m not thrilled by the amount of meta they packed in. We get it. TOS was canceled.

    • Obvious outlandish twist is obvious.

    • The holodeck doppelgangers were hard to connect with or remember their quirks.

    • Spock doesn’t need a romantic relationship.

    • The non sequitur in medias res cold open.

    • Oh no! If you die in the holodeck, you die in real life. I’d love to see a Groundhogs day style holodeck episode where the characters are functionally immortal.
